Hi everyone,

Not posted in a while wanted to update. I was a compulsive gambler and ended up in over £30k debt years ago.

last month I completed my debt repayment plan so officially debt free!  I started my own business couple years ago and last year during lockdown I blew £50k of my savings quickly in trading !

since I have blocked myself from all my trading accounts / online gambling etc and it’s refreshing to know there no way for me to gamble online !

baby no 2 is due soon and having the money to go buy what we need without worry is amazing ! I never thought I’d be here and to know he will have a life without a mum with a gambling addiction makes me feel relaxed!

I wouldn’t say I’m gamble free as with young kids the odd arcade game/ lotto / raffle tickets I find it difficult to be gamble free but I do not gamble compulsively anymore and I am in control of it. We have a caravan so always passing my slots etc and I always say to myself those machines are designed to take your money which they are the bookie always wins !

I feel so content and in control of my life and I was once in a dark place skint wondering how and when my life would be better but it does get better !

you can be a better person / mother / father / wife / husband / partner just take the correct steps and there is a bright future after gambling !

good luck to everyone coming for help for the first time carrying on to compulsive gamble won’t make your life better , making a change today will !

Yeah defo I believe anything can trigger the gambling but I was soo bad I have exhausted all gambling avenues ie. blocked from them all online etc . Bookies was never my thing and I don’t go into any it was always online the blocking apps are a god send !

my partner is fully aware and supportive and we both have control of the finances etc for the first time in my life I feel in “control” best as I can be of this disease and I pray it continues.

when I say the above lotto etc I actually don’t do lotto but sometimes my granny asks me to put hers on. And raffles don’t happen often now due to Covid etc in the schools but yeah I totally get what your saying.

I wish I knew my trigger when I first got into gambling as there was no serious life events etc and I had a good happy upbringing with no money troubles so really in my eyes I have no reasons to be a gambling addict but at 21 I ended up being one which lead to 10 years of utter madness .

your post is honest and I appreciate your feedback

Oh god that’s not good it’s horrible how we can end up back to square one again and I wish you all the best in your recovery to get back to that debt free stage again.

I take each day as it comes but if I ever had an urge which I don’t the now I don’t think about gambling at all I speak out as I just don’t want to be back to square one again Iv wasted 10 years of my life so far but still have a lot more ahead to make up for the misery
