Hi everyone. New here. I’ve been gambling for the past 8 years off and on. I’ve won big and became debt free because of it. But it didn’t last long. I got an even bigger buzz and wasted it all. Long story short I got hit with depression after becoming a new mum living miles away from family with a partner who gave me very little support in all ways. He’d go and spend money on what he wanted and I’d be left picking up the pieces. You get the picture. I hit rock bottom 2 years ago and walked out. We sorted our differences but one thing I could never do was talk about my problem. He barely understood anxiety and depression. He just doesn’t ‘get’ it. Anyway he knew I had some debt but not the full extent. Things were plodding ok. Then I hit a wall again, covid came and my depression soared and I went back to gambling again. I hate myself for it. But I’m not going to work on my road to recovery. I still can’t talk to him which I know most will say I should but I can’t go through the disappointment, shame, lack of understanding and potential control of finances. I can’t do this anymore though. I’ve ruined a weekend because I’ve been so depressed about my debts. Trying to pay them and have money of my own. Which I have failed at and now panicking about money for this month. I’ve got back in touch with payplan to set up a DMP and start taking back control.
