Life forever has its ups and downs and I think I speak for a few of us when I say our downs seem to be the bottom of the barrel. scared to talk to an actual human we turn to those cyber friendly faces who face the same situtations day in day out. They help alot and similarities occur but their solution's dont, why? Because their solutions are tailor made by themselves as an idvidual and they only know what is achievable to them with their background and lifestyles. The only major help and achievement stories come from telling either that one person who you can rely upon most or a family member. Someone who can be there to share your problems and work towards making achievable goals that you know you can reach . Cold turkey about 75% of the time doesnt work as urges become too strong... unless youve got support!!! I know im only young and the debt is high to me now bringing me dark thoughts drastic ideas etc its nothing in comparison to that of someone whos facing a termially ill disease or loss of a loved one. My selfish thoughts push people away, those who I should keep close to me in my time of need. My darkest hour has got to be thoughts of running away to a different country where I would be hard to find but that would acheive nothing, the darker thoughts swim by but thats where they stay thank god. What keeps me here is the deverstation I would cause to my friends and loved ones the pain my partner would feel as well as the pointlessness of it all. So I plod on. Relapses happen they come and go big or little but ill beat this. Works still c**P but its paying my bills and debts. Just heres hoping me you and the next generation can see the theres only one money winner and its certainly not me. But there is a gambler free winner and that will be me.
Positive thoughts to you all we can do this

Hi Theworrier. Your post makes aLot of sense but I do disagree with some of it. I'm actually getting more support and gaining more from strangers on here than I am from friends and family. But as u say, what works for one doesn't work for another.
I Suppose in our recovery it depends what we are happy with. Are we happy to abstain for weeks at a time and put up with the odd relapse? Or do we want to stop completely?
I thought I could manage by rewarding myself with small amounts of bet time and money. I even managed for a few months and thought I had cracked it and could enjoy gambling again. I was wrong. Emotions change. Finances change. And as we are compulsive gamblers we will ALWAYS go to far.
The only way is to stop completely else we will always be back here feeling sorry for ourselves and even deeper in debt.
You sound aLot like me in your relationships and how u feel. I love your positivity and u need to hold that feeling.
Where do u do Ur gambling? Have u put blocks in place to stop u? We can't work on will power alone as we have none!
I wish u well xx
As new name has stated, you will find it hard to beat this problem using willpower alone. Many have tried, most have failed. I have been a member of GA in OZ now for about 7 years, and I know only 1 person who has abstained from gambling using his own willpower. Get all the support you can!
Put as many blocks in place that you can to help prevent your gambling. Don't carry cash. If your gambling online, install a software blocker.
Have you got someone who could take control of your finances for a while? If you haven't got access to money, credit cards etc, this will help prevent you from gambling.
Best wishes
