Hi I'm really finding it difficult to stop gambling I find myself thinking about how I can get money together for my next gamble.
I'm addicted to online slots and have managed to reach my overdraft limit along with maxing out my credit card. I've had a few good wins but within a few days that's been gambled. I decided last week enough was enough and I came clean with my partner and he was surprisingly understanding and has paid off all my debts but I'm still craving for my next gamble and I don't know how to overcome this.

Hi,

Sounds as though you are well addicted. If you continue you'll end up in the doo-doo real bigstyle.

What I've done is installed K9 block on my laptop (it's free). Get your partner to set the password.

I'd also look at conselling via Gamcare. Details are on the forum.

You might want to contact GA and attend meetings.

There is also the 2015 Challenge on the forum which has helped me no end.

Others may post some help as well on here for you.

I've been in my own private hell through excessive gambling. Stop before it get's totally out of hand. You owe it to yourself and your family.

Cheers

I'm currently on day 4 with no gambling and very pleased with myself. I know I have along way to go but it's a start! I have self excluded myself from all the places I held an account.
I have been keeping myself occupied doing other things such as visiting friends/family which I have found to help loads.

Hi amygor35,

You should be proud of yourself being on Day 4.

I'm on day 13 of being gambling free now. I've kept myself very busy and I feel this is part of the solution. If you've read other posts on the forum a common theme is that boredom is our enemy. The old proverb about the devil finding work for idle hands has a ring of truth about it for gamblers. I've found that taking up old hobbies that I'd dumped has helped. I've also got K9 block on the computer to stop me getting on to gambling sites if I did get a big pang.

It's strange but I've only had smallish urges every now and then over the 13 day period. Nothing I have'nt been able to handle. Yesterday was the big test for me as I got paid. I just did'nt feel the need to gamble. Maybe because deep down I know it's time to quit for good. I've realised what a big waste of time and money it all is. I don't get complacent though. It's good to see the number of bet free days mounting up for me and for others on the forum.

Stay strong

Hi amygor35, congratulations on Day 5 🙂

Keeping busy is very important in these early days when you are trying to break the habit & the cravings are still strong. I know you have excluded & Mr Stop has mentioned the blocker. You haven't said whether you have done this yet & you need to have the Time-Money-Location broken for you in these early stages! It's especially important because your OH has bailed you out so you are not physically suffering the fall out of having no money as most people that come here (with their triangle already broken) are!

It may not feel like it at the moment, but you can stop! There are lots of wise words in these pages, choose the ones that can help you the most & take each day as it comes!

It gets easier! Be strong - ODAAT
