I've been struggling with gambling since 2019
I started when I was with my ex wife who is an alcoholicÂ
When things were bad at home, I discovered the online sites, and found myself getting lost in them.
I found they were the only things that would give me excitement ( if I won) and I did many times, and would lose it eventuallyÂ
On a deeper level , I could get lost, escape from what was going on around me at home
I've had two lots of counseling via gamcare, yet I'm still in the same place
I isolate myself, avoid making plans so it doesn't interfere with gamblingÂ
I have a son who never goes without, but the borrowing I do sees to that
I always pay people back but the lies I tell to borrow are easily told
Anyway I could go on and tell the rest of my story but the main reason I'm writing this today is for support from anyoneÂ
I get paid soon 27th, and Im taking my son away at the end of the month, before my next pay day
I'm so scared of giving in to gambling, and losing money that I need to give him the best few days, and could do with some supportÂ
I assume you have all the blocking mechanisms in place to stop gambling online (GAMSTOP etc), so can only assume you are looking at areas where these blocks don't work.
At the risk of being harsh if you have had counselling, have blocks in place and are still worried about not being able to manage without gambling for the sake of your son's weekend away you need some serious intervention.
With regards to the weekend, is there anyone you can pass the money to and ask them to look after it - or if your son is old enough, give him the money and tell him it is an education in financial management and you are making him responsible for the budget for the weekend - pretty sure you wouldn't want to take it back off him and then admit you had lost it all and see his look of disappointment.
Just random thoughts, and good luck - I hope you stay strong and it goes well. Â
