Hello All!

its my first time here. I have been gambling for a few years now and ever since I started, my bets get bigger. I've lost a bit of money in my time and I need to change this. I don't think about gambling all the time. I think about it when I get paid and think 'I need to get my wages up!' With doing this, I'll loose it and I'll chase it to try get it back and even a win!! This is the first step to my recovery. I'm sick of getting paid every month and being skint the same day! Today I've joined this, tomorrow I'm self excluding myself from the bookmakers and the day after I'm going to attend my first GA meeting.

Ive hurt loved ones with my gambling and to make things right I need to sort my addiction out. I'm looking forward to attending the meetings and getting the right support so I can get rid of my addiction and be clean. I already have plans set up on how much I'll be spending a month so Im giving it a go on controlling my own money and even start my own savings instead of wasting it on silly bets.

Hey Ryan,

Well done on admitting you have a betting problem. Thats the first step, will be a long road but you can do it, support from family and friends does help and blockers in place is a good idea remove temptation.

Hi Ryandfc,

Welcome to the Forum, and well done for your post.

I’m glad you’ve realised how gambling problem can quickly progress, and also easily get out of control. It’s a positive move when you thus decided to do something about it. The plans you’ve laid down to help you overcome your problematic gambling sounds good, and I will encourage you to stay focused, and go through with each of them. It would benefit you if you do.

It’s important that you replace your spare time/ gambling time with other forms of activities or hobbies to distract you from the idea of gambling. That would also prevent you from being bored, and thus avoid the temptation of falling back to gambling.

Try and keep reading the posts from the forum for more strategies on stopping gambling. Also read for encouragement, strength, and to know that you’re not alone in this, and that it’s possible to overcome your gambling problem if you follow the advice being offered to you.

I suggest you contact us via our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers. An adviser would be able to refer you for 12 sessions of free counselling.

Our lines are open from 8.00am to midnight, everyday of the week.

Thanks again for your post, and pls. keep posting.

Kind regards,

Beatrice
