Hi all,
Today I have come to realise I am at my wits end with gambling, I got paid a week ago and have already spent all but of a fraction of my wages on online slots. I can't keep doing this month in and month out, it is bringing me to my lowest possible point and I feel empty inside knowing I have wasted so much time and money on chasing practically nothing. As I am writing this I can feel a small weight being lifted from my shoulders as I am fractionally 'getting it out in the open'. For a long time I have put gambling down to 'boredom' but there are many other things I could have been doing in the time I was gambling, I now realise I have a problem. If anyone does read this, I thank you for taking a minute out of your day for want of a better word, listening.
Morning curled Web!
Well done in taking the first step, realising you have a problem and reaching out for help. You will find a lot of help and support here we are all in the same boat.
Your exactly right in saying we are chasing the money for practically nothing. Even if we win are we going to withdraw? ..nope. I too used to gamble when bored. For a bit of fun. It'd good if you feel a little weight off your shoulders. You can get blocking software for your phone. Have you self excluded from all sites?
Thank you for replying bw, I have self excluded from all sites except for one, the only reason I haven't self excluded from that is I have a pending withdrawal that will help see me through the month and the small print is confusing as to whether it will still cash out if I self exclude now. That one, will not be reversed and as soon as the money hits my bank I will be excluding from that and getting blocking software for my phone.
I believe a big downfall is the ease of gambling on mobiles and tablets rather than going on a pc to do it, my phone is where I gamble 99% of the time. This time I will not go back.
Well done on taking the first step. It’s a long road to recovery but you are not alone, and there is help. You are one of 600,000 people a year that visit this website looking for answers.
Many times you will have said ‘never again’ yet it always seems to happen again? So this time you need to do things differently.
You’ve confessed, now it’s time to follow through. If you are serious abt not going back, then you will do 100% of it.
Best,
Mike
Gamcare removed the link I posted in the previous comment, which contained detailed information on what has worked for me for the last 25 years.
But to read it click on my name, follow the link to my addiction blog, and read the piece in the center entitled “Recovery Strategy - Staying off gambling one day at a time”.
Hello curled web.
Good on you for taking the first steps on your road to recovery.
1. Realising you have a problem
2. Asking for help
I like yourself came onto this site looking for the answers to why i gamble all my money away almost on auto pilot!
I am now 374 days gamble free and my life is heading in a completely different direction.
There are lots of blocks/techniques to help you on your way.
Forums, g.a meetings, counselling sessions etc.
The key is finding which one works for you and sticking to it.
I found that 6 counselling sessions worked as they helped me realise why i gambled and what i wanted out of life.
Regarding the withdrawal from your last remaining account , i would contact the company asap and explain your situation that you have a problem and wish to be excluded from the site and explain about the pending withdrawal. They have a obligation to you to exclude you immediately and will ensure you get the money back.
The sooner you do this the better as you could be tempted at a later date.
Good luck
