My father had his own betting shop, so I have been brought up with gambling most my life but should know better, however, I get into a cycle and cannot stop this ruins my life and my wife's where we have both recently been promoted at work, this addiction is so frustrating I feel like a loser regardless of how well I do away from gambling why can I not control the urges?
It is not just the money but the time what would people recommend I have just self-excluded for 5 years.

Well done on your decision to stop and putting blocks in place. It's not easy but nothing worth while ever is. I would urge you to use what this site offers. The help and support is here. We all started at day one and it felt hopeless, but it does and will improve for you. Urges decrease and minds become clearer. It's a near impossible task to undertake alone. Wish you the very best of luck Â

Hi dillyboy, well done for posting and self excluding really good positive steps. As chezzy said trying to stop alone is near impossible, majority of people need help ,support this forum is for that. When I was at my lowest point I googled ' help I can't stop gambling ' this forum was the first thing to pop up. 6+ months later I don't post every day but I post often but I read 2or 3 times a day keeps me grounded and reminds me what hell the beginning of recovery was. Consider your wife taking full control of finances for a while take the stress off and allows you to be completely transparent about everything. Hope you start your recovery post and let us know how it's going for you. Best wishes
I know how you feel. I gambled for years. It gradually got worse and worse. Lost all my savings and mounted up £10k debt. I’m now gamble free for nearly 12 months. It really wasn’t easy. But I can honestly say life is better now than it’s been for years. I’ve managed to clear all my debt and I can now say I have a life with no worry. What I’m saying is if I can do it anyone can. I wish you all the best.Â
