Hi not sure if anyone will read this post but may make me feel better at writing this down. This is my first post and dont visit any other forums. Like the rest of you we have a gambling addiction dont know when to stop, I earn a hefty salary but still managed to rack up 35k plus debt in two years of gambling, I lost my decent gf mother of kids close family members and every one I have ever trusted as a result of gambling. Ive not had much help as all help offered is total rubbish, been to GA and didnt relate to any of there bible speach. Ive done my wages this month not even leaving enough money to survive and support family. The goverment allows adverts during every sporting intervals to promote gambling and on every street corner is a bookies. The poor wages and high stress of every day life means we are all gambling to get by. I believe advertising gambling should be banned like cigarettes and this country needs to start recoignising that so many of us normal folk are ruining our lifes as a result of gambling. Ive banned myself from mutliple shops by just causing a scene because they wont barr you upon request so threatened to smash up there machines unless they bar me. Ive seen people so destressed phypical punching themselves in the face as a result of chasing loses. The bookies staff dont seem to do anything just continue to accept bets, although I still gamble every day, I have to control my daily money by filtering into other banks where I can not access. Websites allowing such extreme bets should be capped also, if an alocholic was been emailed every day to encourage him to drink im pretty sure there would be some kind of law suit available but bookies get away with this every day. Praying on the weak, I am truly up for starting a rebelion against the bookies, protests boycotts the lot, cause a bit of a stir. If anyone else up for joining the reblion make a comment.
there are ' gambling reform ' forums online - at least one. However, you're making the mistake of blaming the bookies for your own shortcomings; sure they're milking you due to your weakness but you could choose to become strong instead. Learn to resist. Change comes from within. It's very convenient for you to blame them (the bookies & the industry) instead of turning on yourself & changing yourself - that's what you'll need to do to stop. Gambling will always exist, whether advertised or not. But that doesn't mean you have to gamble. So focus on yourself and what you have control over instead.
I agree with you gamblers will always exist and the reason I am in this mess is due to my own weakness but there are no other countrys with 2 bookies on every street corner. Allowing 2k roulette spins on your mobile phone is just madness, the goverment should step in and start restricting their business.
why would they ? they get a cut from the action ! this gov't is all about money taking priority over people's welfare. if anything the limits will only increase over time. all you can do is work on yourself so that you become strong enough to stop. maybe cancel all of your debit / credit cards (report them lost, then rip up the replacements, that way you don't need to go into why with the banks / credit card co.'s etc), & live on cash for a while (withdraw with ID at the bank if you need some). If you don't have access to any electronic funds then you won't be able to gamble online or on mobiles etc. They don't give credit ! You're blaming the bookies and the gov't instead of blaming yourself.

I agree. The temptation of being allowed to gamble by the government, should be held as accountable as those of us who do gamble. Unfortunately, they will not start restricting theses casinos till there is a louder public outcry or it because expensive enough for them to take care of those who are affected by it.
Whilst I agree about possible legislation.
I can only say I've lost over 200k over the years.
It's down to my weakness and mine alone. MY PROBLEM. I'm an adult no one twisted my arm up my back and forced me to gamble.
I've now taken steps to stop gambling because in my heart of hearts that's what I want to do.
However, it does not stop me from having compassion for others in a similar situation. That's why I post on here and offer my support.
Stay Strong
It seems like this addiction is everyone elses fault. Thank heavens for that. If it is not my fault then i dont have to take responsibility for it. Never heard anyone mention the bible in a GA room yet in over 400 meetings that i have attended. How long did you attend. How much commitment have you given to breaking the cycle of addiction you are in. This is really hard approx 3-5% of addicts be that gambling drugs alcohol s*x shopping whatever make it to 1 year clean. Take responsibility back. Make changes to how you deal with life. Try to step away from blaming & feeling blamed. The help that is out there, which ever path you decide to take will work if you work it
cheers for the input guys, I am stopping gambling. Seeking help through gp to deal with self control, but i do strongly believe advertising should be stopped
There is a difference between blaming someone else and saying there are contributing factors.
How you handle your recovery is dependant on each individual. But to say that the gambling advertisement is not a contributing factor is just sticking your head in the sand.
If I had my way, I would outlaw gambling all together. But I do not have my way, so I deal with the situation and the environment I am around.
Doesn't mean I can't wish.
Evening Standard headline made me think of this post tonight.
"Theives think everybody steals"
You said that everbody gambles, I know you were speaking metaphorically, but even so I think that with the relentless advertising, it is easy to assume that the industry is bigger than it is and that everyone has a flutter. No-one in my immediate or extended family has ever been in a bookies or gambled, its part of why we were so naive when someone married a CG.
Just wanted to say that there is a whole world of people ignoring gambling out here and you're welcome to join it, you just have to look for it.
Well done to all of you for the progress you are making, it is very reassuring to read.
Just re-read my post from months back, 12 weeks gamble free life much better for it. Appreciate the comments, but gambling is always a weakness people look to exploit. Thanks gamcare for the 12 sessions, going private for the rest #onelife
That's it then we're all agreed !! Come the day of the revolution , We'll take down the government the bookies the advertising agency's for there posters and advert's and also the banks and loan companies for lending us the money to bet with once ours has run out !!! Coz it's not our fault we bet , is it ? . Power to the people !!!
Affected by gambling?
