I decided to sign up to this forum today because as of yesterday, I am one year gamble free. I just thought I'd give something back because this forum helped me get back on track with my life.

I'm going to share what I think is the key reason why we continue gambling after we've got ourselves in a hole. We think we can finish on a high.

"If I can just win X amount of money I can pay off all my debt"

"If I can just win my money back, I can quit for good"

I know you think can quit on a high but take it from somebody who's been there and done it. I once won £12,000 and paid off all of my debts. 3 weeks later I was in debt again.

After a big win, the urge to gamble is unbelievable. (As I'm sure you already know) It was literally ALL I could think about every single day. I thought after paying off my debt, my life would be back again. I was completely wrong. The addiction actually felt stronger than ever. I NEEDED that buzz again. I never felt so addicted to gambling as I did after winning all that money.

Anyway the reason why I created this thread is to urge people to quit NOW. If you continue gambling it will only get worse and worse. Get out of the mindset of trying to finish on a big win. Trust me on that one.

No matter how bad your situation, your quality of life WILL improve once you quit gambling. That's all we want isn't it? A better life. Gambling will not give you that.

I really hope this helps at least on person out there!

Cheers,

Jamie.

In my experience, winning just leads to bigger stakes and bigger losses.
