Hello thought I'd share my gambling experience on here. Since 2002 I have had major problems on roulette in bookmakers. Lost £40,000+ in 14 years. Today lost yet again and leaving me in a mess. Used to play £20 spins now down to £1/£2 spins but still lose consistently with the odd win in between. Responsible gambling don't make me laugh. You can still do a lot of money playing low stakes with the near misses happening very regularly. Been trying to stop but doesn't work long term. Tried self exclusion but still only a train ride away from having a bet. Anyway thats it had enough of gambling and going to try and stop for the 46th time while the TV,Radio and Internet will try and persuade me that gambling is a positive pursuit and I'll be happy doing my money on a regular basis while having a smile on my face.
Lack of money is usually what drives me to gamble in the first place... but the outcome is invariably even less money afterwards. I am hoping that the "sick and tired of being broke" feeling will be a key positive motivator to help me in modifying my behaviour. I mean there are SO MANY BETTER THINGS we could be spending our hard-earned cash on - especially our families and those we care about, as well as for ourselves - rather than throwing it away!!!
Hi gamprob 36,
Welcome to the Forum!
You are right, stopping gambling is a very tough and difficult road. There can be many set backs and frustrations along to the way and this can be very difficult to cope with.
Having said all this, you can learn from your experience as you go along, if you can move past your frustrations. It's a process. This sounds much easier than it is, but stopping gambling is something you can learn over time.
I am glad to hear that you haven't given up on trying to stop. Keep going. Maybe give the HelpLine a call on 0808 8020133 or contact the NetLine http://www.gamcare.org.uk/support-and-counselling/frontline-services/netline#.Vjc-ny1FBIU.
You can talk this through one to one with an advisor, who can also suggest other strategies and maybe counselling services in your local area. Give it a try.
All the best to you and kind wishes
Gabriele
