Another long wait until pay day

Well, yesterday was pay day for me and I decided after 3 weeks gamble free that £20 in the roulette couldn't hurt.

That £20 quickly became £200, and having paid all my bills and purchased some euros for my holiday in 2 weeks I now have zero money left.

Month in month out I tend to live off peanuts and it amazes me how a 20 minute gambling stint can take 5 weeks to recover from.

Will I ever learn 🙁

What are you going to do to make sure this can't happen again?

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

I have a plan in place.... I have what they call a Pockit card, which is a prepaid credit card that you can fund via bank transfer or over the counter in shops etc. I will set my bank to fund it £30 a week and leave my bank card at home. The Pockit cards are rejected in bookies too so that's a benefit I guess

Hi All,

Has anyone successfully self -excluded from the casino by being denied entry to the premises on arrival? I ask because I have time and time crept in unnoticed and have lost massively. What is the casino's duty of care to gamblers when they have failed to prevent PGs entry to the floors? Can any legal injunction be taken against these businesses?

Hi again

Is there anyone who you could open up to? Anyone who can take control of your finances?

Making yourself accountable to someone else is a very good starting point. Can you book some counselling to start to investigate why you feel the need to gamble? GA would also be a very good option for support and advice.

biggest-loser: SE has its drawbacks as you've discovered. I would suggest taking the measures above as a starting point. You need to eliminate your access to cash and gambling then identify and address whatever it is that's driving the compulsion.

Hi biggest looser, I myself have self excluded from the casino in the past. It worked for me as you had to be allowed entry after signing in, but I appreciate they are all different security wise.

Hi Lether, I have handed my finances over so I only ever have very limited funds available, but it just happened that on pay day I needed the card to buy some euros and hence let myself down.

I'm wise to it all though, I've had 6 month gamble free spells before now, but I just seem to suffer the odd slip every now and again.

I'll get back on track though I'm sure. Appreciate your help though 🙂
