Slots in particular.... online slots.

hi all. Hope you are well.

After losing a load of money I’m blocked via Gamstop. And haven’t gambled in a month. I don’t really know what to say here except it’s driving me mad as I just have my “favourite” slot purring away in my mind - all the time! Real withdrawal symptoms.

ive hovered over FOBTs a few times (they are in all sorts of places as you know - not just bookies!) with a few quid in my hand.... ready. But managed to resist. Finding it very difficult to contemplate a life without any spins again (even though I know it was completely destroying me)

had a bit of an issue being able to install and then quite easily remove Gamban (which I have been in touch with them about and hopefully will resolve soon) - this has enabled me to play slots “for fun” which I think has ended up being a form of self torture (not actually gambling at the same time) and won’t have helped recovery. Anyway - hopefully I’ll sort that soon and block those sites soon.

Anyway, I know this is a bit of a ramble but just needed to write a few words down. Thanks if you’ve got this far....

cheers and happy Friday!

Macca

Hi Macca,

Anything remotely illustrating the REAL THING  is bad for us. If it's slots but not for real money, stay away. Accept that anything remotely related to gambling real money only wets our appetite and will inevitably lead us back to what brought us here in the first place.

I haven't bought a newspaper for over a year as i was never interested in reading about Brexit or the riots in Hong Kong, i just wanted to read about football & horse racing. I was in the barbers the other week & the shop was really busy. In the waiting area the newspapers were there to read. I couldn't bring myself to read one in case it wet my appetite to go back to my old way of life.

You've done fantastic so far Mags, the next step is being conscious of trigger points, we'll never be free from addiction but we can guard against complacency, know what motivates us to gamble and avoid these things. I'm trying to imagine a virtual horse race or football match & having a handful of monopoly money would that be my methadone ?, I doubt it. Stick to dog walks, visiting your brother and other healthy things in order to fill the void. Trust me all will make sense if you persevere.

Kind Regards

AL

As time goes by you will think about it less and less, it's like stopping any addiction, time fades those initial thoughts to the point where they either don't exist or are so fleeting that it no longer bothers you.

thanks AL

of course, I know inside that you are right. Apart from anything else it’s a useless waste of time consumed on the “free slots” too. It’s hard as it does appear to alleviate an urge to some extent. But I do know where it ends up; as I’ve been here before..... and then gone on to “real stuff” (the story is a little more complicated than that; but essentially that’s where is ended up).

thank you for confirming what I’ve been thinking.

and well done with your perseverance.

cheers

6 weeks gamble free. Not a penny spent on so much as a scratch card.

just having a moment when I’d really love to have a gamble.

blocked out of sites but fantasising about having a quick go on a FOBT in a shop.

i know it’s bonkers - but the feeling is there. Pretty sure it won’t happen. Too much to lose .Need to keep thinking about how awful it was 6 weeks ago.

good weekend folks
