I posted on this forum with a different username at Christmas time in 2011 (I was 18 then), I managed to stop for 8 weeks before eventually relapsing and I've been constantly gambling since, when I was last on here I'd lost about 2.5k from gambling, now it's about 24k, I am in £12,000 of debt and my life feels over.
Anyway I'm going to try and quit for good (not feeling particularly confident), I'll try and do a daily diary on here as it might give me more chance.
Any suggestions?
Brad
Hi Brad - Well done for rejoining us and resolving to quit this terrible affliction of gambling. Keeping a Diary here is a good start.
Have you also put barriers in place to prevent you from accessing online temptation or visiting betting shops? If you use online sites, then blocking software is invaluable, e.g. K9.
But perhaps you know all this from previously.
Come and join a whole group of us in the '2014 Challenge' which you will find on the 'Overcoming problem gambling' page - if you read some of the posts on there you'll see that it's a brilliant team effort which really helps.
Best wishes to you.
Joanna
Thanks for your response Joanna,
I haven't downloaded any blocking software or self excluded from any shops yet, I should probably do this in the coming week to prevent any temptation.
Brad
Hi Brad - No 'probably' about it - DO IT NOW!!
Sorry - didn't mean to shout ...:o)
But it's the only way - putting barriers between yourself and temptation really sets you on the path to recovery.
All the best,
Joanna
