** GURU CHALLENGE - Latest WEEKLY ROLLCALL! ***

It's Sunday, 24th March 2018

Another week passes; another week where we appreciate what really matters in life. That’s to enjoy the ‘golden ticket’ we’ve had a fortune to receive on our one-time-trip on Planet Earth. Why make this trip, our moment in the sun, difficult?

How are we doing this week … let’s see, team! Are you ...

  • ROCKING? Another week gambling-free; excellent!
  • RELAPSED (but re-RESOLVED)? Aaaaargh! Sorry to hear that … get back off the gambling QUICK. There are positives: you’ve been honest with us; it shows respect for us and respect for yourself. Let’s see what we can do to get you back onto the good road.

WE WELCOME

John64 and Lulubobs - It’s great to have you both with us, and if joining us helps in some small way, or even maybe a bigger way, then all the better! Welcome aboard.

ROLLCALL OF HONOUR

Chartom3 and NiceNormalFamily have both passed the 100-day GF milestone; congratulations to you both, a genuine achievement and setting a marker down for a positive future. All of us on the Challenge are uplifted by this news – keep it going!

Boxingdayfresh – Delighted to read that you’re back to Striver level – 30 days GF free. We’re all with you.

Our GURUs

Phil72775 days GFROCKING! – Hi there Phil and great to know you’re down to the final loan repayments, a hard-fought campaign and just the reward.

Degenerate362ROCKING! – Strange, isn’t it, when we ‘tip’ horses or whatever they seem to come in when we don’t back them. But we forget when we ‘tip’ losers. Same difference when we used to gamble for real. Doing great, by the way!

Our ELDERs

Sars27 296 ROCKING! – Hey Sars and hope you’ve had a good week; ups and downs may have come your way but it’s all about the handling as we all know!

Rubybaby239 - ROCKING! – I hope you’re Ok Ruby and you’re going great guns!

Mixer226ROCKING! One day at a time, keeping gambling free. Had a very stressful couple of weeks on many fronts, but getting on with it, as I (we all) must. This is one of the reasons this rollcall is a little truncated this week – really have had one of those weeks!

4D200 ROCKING! – Keeping the faith, 4D which is testament to an excellent strategy you’ve put in place.

Slotfool - 136ROCKING! – Around 50 days until you’re debt-free; see that target through!

Chartom3 (*ELDER status achieved*)106 – ROCKING! The post-milestone achievement can be a double-edged sword but you’re keeping well, keeping busy and keeping it real. Three major positive attitudes that will keep you on the right path.

Our STRIVERS

NiceNormalFamily - 100 ROCKING! – Fantastic NiceNormalFamily and here is a marker you’ve set, a marker that says you mean business.

Godoicul93 ROCKING! – There’s something a little special when a target hits a certain date, like your 100 days on Easter Sunday. Wild horses won’t stop you hitting this date, Godoicul – I have a feeling about it.

Adam123 - 92 ROCKING! – You’re making positive future plans, Adam, and have every right. I’m off the beer next week, am totally resolved about it. Join me?

Ineffable85 ROCKING! – I’ve just read your e-mail re: playing with virtual money and that doesn’t count as breaking your GF days. But you’re just tempting yourself, as you well know. Just don’t cross the line. I know it’s bloody difficult.

Christer1 52 ROCKING! – Well done for hitting 50 days and you’re right not to count your chickens; it’s all about one day at a time, nothing more, nothing less.

201839ROCKING – Hope you’re keeping strong 2018! Do let us know.

Boxingdayfresh32 ROCKING – Back up to Striver, wiser, smarter and more resolved than last time. And always aware this is a day-to-day operation!

NEW & re-RESOLVED MEMBERS

Stephen the Stoic - 25 - ROCKING – I always enjoy your posts, Stephen and promise to pass by your thread soon. Thank you, as always, so much for your kind words.

Tara2 - Hi Tara, and great to have you with us. Reading your posts, you have a great insight to what this is all about; we know how serious it is, and hope that with us on the Challenge we individually and collectively make a big postive difference to our lives. Knowledge is power; and the key to our success!

RESTED

Marson123 RESTED – I’m resting you Marson, you are always welcome back anytime.

Determined DanRESTED – Haven’t heard from you for a few weeks and have rested you. But welcome back anytime!

STATS FOR NERDS: We have two new members and two of us have been rested. That means we currently have 2 GURUs, 6 ELDERs, 7 STRIVERs and 2 NEW/re-RESOLVEDs; a net total (inc. our newbie) of 19.

*** JOKES OF THE WEEK! ***

Here are a few funnies for you…!

Q: Who's the nicest man in a hospital?
A: The ultra-sound man!

Q: Who covers his shifts while he's away?
A: The hip-replacement guy!

Q: What do you call a tellytubby who has been burgled?

A: A tubby!

Four fonts walk into a bar. The barman says "Oi - get out! We don't want your type in here!"

I went to sort out a loan for my new bakery the other day. Gave the bank manager the business plan, projections, everything, and he asked what sort of turnover I expected to make.

I told him .... "apple".

Keep strong and keep smiling everyone!

Great Sunday Roll-Call Mixer which puts me in a positive state of mind for the week ahead.

It is saddening when friends go by the wayside and I send them my love and best wishes. We should never lose hope. One can alway rejoin the fight with a fresh mind set, better fortifications and improved strategies.

By contrast, it is always a joy to see friends forging ahead on the gamble free road, rediscovering their lives and freeing themselves from the tyranny of gambling addiction.

Wishing everyone a good gamble free week...stephen

Morning all, checking in on 138 days, the weeks are flying by lately, time used to go so slowly when I first quit gambling that I felt it almost stood still.

Sars - thank you for the update, and delighted you're both on song and GF! Always guaranteed to bring a smile on both counts 🙂

Tara - you are absolutely right, as part of our group you will find inspiration from our members ... we keep it real here, and that's what makes and keeps it real ... and life affirming.

Stephen - thank you for a beautifully worded post; you can really 'hold a pen', my friend. And, yes, life is about the journey, not (gulp!) the destination. It would be nice to think, though, when we reach 'the end', though, that we can look back, and think: I lived a life, and I did my best.

Adam - it's a pleasure to have you join me. I'm 2 days into my booze-free week ahead. Nothing till Saturday! Let's do this, and really clear our minds. (Glad you like the jokes, btw - plenty more where they came from 🙂 )

Let's have a great week, everyone. Let's live life as it's meant to be lived, without painful distractions like gambling. We have full control over our addiction every single day; let's use and prove the control, the underlying strength, that we all have.

Just for today, just today, we're not going to gamble. Agreed, everyone?

I was thinking last evening that this guru challenge is like getting on the ship of recovery; we've got a captain too. The ship or maybe cruise of recovery where it's safe and we have a charted coarse for the same destination. tara2

Adam - good man; I'm on Day 4 with no drinking. Starting to feel a bit better actually.

Mitch - you are more than welcome to re-join us. Great to have you back, Mitch!

Tara - that's a good anology. This challenge is like a ship, a safe place to be, and we're heading to sunny climbs. It's going to be a rocky journey but a rewarding one where we can start to sail, start to live with the sun in our faces rather than the disspiriting drizzle of gambling. And whilst I might be 'captaining' this particular vessel, we all have a valuable part to play in keeping us all afloat! We all need each other, we need, and want each other to succeed. We don't want to go back to where we've come from - that's why we've got on board in the first place!

Raj - great to hear from you, and sorry to hear you've got a cold. Keep your spirits high, my friend. Glad you liked the jokes. Plenty more ahead!

Ok everyone. It's P****** down with rain. It's a bit miserable out there. But that's not going to distract us. Just for today, we're NOT going to gamble. We don't need it and, what's more, we don't have to! We can put our money, our lives, towards much better things. We can share our money, our time, our selves, with others! Isn't this what life's about?

Absolutely NO gambling today.
