Topic starter

So, you might need to stick with me on this one as it's sort of two discussions that have moulded into one in my brain. Maybe some overthinking but I'm going with it.

Writing these daily topics with film titles, started me thinking about describing my life in films. So that's the first bit of the topic and I will try and do that for me.

What started in childhood as a Paddington Bear style amazing upbringing, soon moved onto Rebel Without A Cause, moving to a new town and just couldn't fit into any friendship groups so decided to rebel to look cool (well very uncool, but it was an attempt). Then we move into the horror film phase of my life which could be described by so many films but lets go with Jeepers Creepers, Nightmare on Elm Street and mix in a little Friday the 13th with Saw. So I guess that describes the pain which led to the final 10 years of addiction which is best described firstly by Psycho then One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. That last film saw me into and during the first month or so of recovery and maybe into the Davinci Code. Once the dial to the vault opened I currently find myself in, not sure but maybe Jerry Maguire ? Someone who has made a lot of poor decisions and been selfish but now wants that better life, knowing it's not built on money.

So the second part of this topic which I am trying to negotiate cognitively is the question, what kept me watching those films in addiction and living them out ? Was it that recovery didn't look rosy but just the same life under a different name with the same problems ? I know what drove me to gamble but not really what kept me there. The knowledge of knowing why I went there helps me and I guess I don't need to know why I stayed there for so long.

One thing I do know now is that I love my life now and am not switching channels and stopping watching Jerry Maguire. Hence the film title Staying Alive
