This is great news, Christer, Ineffable - thank you for the heads up. Everyone with a gambling issue should sign up to this as soon as it’s available - it’s going to make a big difference. It’s the deterrent factor more than anything - if we break the terms of the contract (e.g. purposefully walk into a bookies), there will be consequences as we will be made aware of the breach. No-one will want to have the shame of that. We all have pride, deep down.

Meantime, we must remain strong and remove any ways we can gamble, either by removing the opportunity and/or means to gamble. Or move to a country where gambling’s banned but that, of course, isn’t necessarily practical nor attractive 🙂

Now ... who is going to post the 1000th post on this thread 🙂

Have a great weekend everyone.

Mixer

P.S. I am going to have to postpone tomorrow’s rollcall because I’m on holiday and don’t have the means to do it. So I’ll have a bumper Rollcall next weekend. My apologies for this; I hope you understand.

Hello Mixer hope you and your family are enjoying your holiday in Jersey. You won't be spending much on sun-block today but as long as your dressed for the occasion you can have fun and laughter whatever the weather.

Massive congratulations on your gamble free adventure. It's 239 days since you last had a bet and you have shown great courage, resilience and a good sense of humour. By running the Guru Challenge you have also added a new dimension to recovery and given support and encouragement to your fellow travellers.

The Guru Challenge has captured the imagination of myself and others. A group of friends who are banded together by a common cause, men and women who are battling for their freedom from the insidious tyranny of gambling addiction. The success of the Guru Challenge is marked today by the 1,000 posting on this unique thread. A thread which has always offered great support, practical advice and useful information.

Hearts on sleeves ~ bellies full of hope ~ smiles of defiance. The Guru Challengers keep forging ahead and nothing is going to stop us now.

Let's Rock n Roll.

Hope ur having a nice well deserved break mixer. Heres more info My understanding is that, once registered you will be excluded from every company with a UK gaming commission licence (that might be the wrong term)
Any company who operates within the UK needs this licence, so it seems pretty comprehensive.
I REALLY hope my understanding is correct !

UPDATE (28/12/17) - The 2018 Challenge has started! Join it here

hello!

*** THIS IS THE GURU CHALLENGE - Something slightly different! ***

Do you think you can go 300 days gambling free, in manageable stages? Want to give it a go?

Join us as we endeavour to stop gambling for ....

  • 30 days, hitting the "STRIVER" milestone
  • 100 days, reaching the "ELDER" milestone
  • 300+ days, passing the "GURU" milestone - our target!

Every Sunday, I'll post a weekly rollcall - every member gets a personalised message of encouragement.

You'll find plenty of discussions and pieces here looking at how we can both understand this destructive addiction and steps to do something about it - and keep on track.

Just post 'Hello' and you're in!

All the best, whatever you decide and however you choose to fight and control this insidious addiction.

Morning Mixer. Congratulations on your continued good progress.

Hope you and your family are enjoying a great holiday in Jersey. It is fun to get away from it all for a while.

Look forward to reading of your exploits when you return. I imagine everybody missed last Sundays rollcall but as you stressed on post 999 you would have to miss it due to your holiday. Your efforts in helping your fellow travellers is highly commendable and much appreciated.

Take care my friend and keep enjoying your gamble free adventure....stephen

Checking in on day 110. Had good news this week with a complaint against a pay day lender. They have offered to pay all the interest they have took from me back and close my account. I shall be taking them up on that offer me thinks.

Hope you are enjoying your holiday Mixer

Checking in on day 14. Two full weeks of bliss, of newly discovered freedom. Welcoming even the more menial tasks as they keep me away from a treacherous gambling journey I want to put behind. I feel awake, I feel alert and I feel determined to make this one my definitive attempt to be GF!
