hi all,
I worked out this morning that since Jan 2014 i have lost £5170 due to gambling.
I dont smoke or drink but worked out that is just under £30 a week ive wasted.
I havent had a bet since Monday and from this weekend i am going to put £20 away in a tin instead of having a gamble.
Just over £5,000 in 3 n half year isnt the end of The world but its made me realise i have to stop.
Good luck when you work it out like that it's alot of money. Gd idea with tin
why not save the £30 a week? you found it to gamble with
Hi CM3003.
yes it can be a difficult one as we have to put that money behind us but at the same time never forget the dangers and the madness of gambling.
Your title is a good one. We dont realise what we are doing but the addiction is complex. I had some realisation when the cupboards were bare but would gamble again when I had money. I have read pages of gambling psychology but still cant fully understand why I didnt snap out of it sooner.
Like you I threw away thousands with nearly £3000 just in one year. Thats money I really needed to live on but things are falling into place now Im gamble free and life goes on. It has to go on and I have to put tat money behind me because gambling was never an escape or an income scheme.
I hope you have blocks and self exclusions because unfortunately willpower alone does not work in the vast majority of cases.
Best wishes from everyone on the forum

Was meant to be £30, put my first £30 away in tin on weekend, felt good and as the weeks and months go by will watch it build up.
My problem has always been online gambling, i can go from betting £5 one day to £50 the next without realising what im doing till im a few hundred down. Ive bought betfilter which is helping a lot, not being able to go on gambling sites means i dont think of gambling anywhere near as much as i do when i have access to it.
Will update here every few weeks to help me stay on track.
Just withdrew another £30 to put in my tin at home, thats £90 saved in three weeks with no gambling.
Downloading bet filter and putting away this £30 a week is helping me stay focused and don't feel the urge at all to gamble at the moment.
£30 a week might not seem like much to some but over the year its just under £1,500 and id rather save that then throw it away gambling.
Its a good start and i am just hoping i can keep it going a long time .
Affected by gambling?
