Does anyone else work within the online betting industry? It is a difficult one for me as I am sure it cannot help me surrounded by odds and sport all day. Also morally I have reservations with my own troubles over the years. But the problem is I need the salary to pay my rent, my bills and the debt I get into with what are seemingly relapse every year or two. I have applied for a fair few jobs over the years outside the industry that appeal but without luck. I feel like I can go long periods not betting here but I am sure it makes my challenge even tougher.

Is there anyone else on here who works in the industry and how are your experiences. Do you think it is essential in the long run to get out of it to reduce the risk of harm or I am deluded to think I won't encounter problems if I had a job in another sector?

Hi son, I had a Saturday job in a bookies, back then they were generally in the back alleys and considered a den of disrepute, at least my one was.
The guv would write specials for his mates on a rizla, turned out he was on the fiddle anyway, he had to disappear never to be seen again when that got uncovered. The walls were yellow with f*g smoke. Plus we got robbed twice.
Basically I gambled my pay slip with the tips I was given but never went into debt, it seemed harder those days to get credit maybe it’s just me.
You have to keep trying for the jobs it took my daughter 2 years but you have to keep trying, don’t give up!

Hi JD.

You have a moral Dilemma and I feel you have to go with your moral standards.

I refuse to call it an "industry" because of the misery it causes.

I accept that jobs can seem hard to find. There is work though that you might not have considered. Try and build up a skill thats in demand even if you start at trainee level...cooking, trade work hospitality etc etc

There is work when you keep an open mind. Many jobs have stresses but you know in your heart if you are unhappy and need to move on

I dont know about your gambling issues or how work affects you.

I think a lot of my local gambling den workers dont really know what else to do or drift into it. Im not having a personal go at you but I wish these workers would not work in the gambling sector

There is a way forward for you

Best wishes from everyone on the forum
