You are missing the point of my post

What I said was odds based betting cannot be classed into the same league as FOBTs, casino and online gambling because the house’s edge is so much higher on these games

For example, on blackjack You don’t have the option to bet that you will receive over 3 cards in your next hand you just receive your random cards you make your decision on whether to hit or stick and all of this is priced at even money with the exception of blackjack ….

However The sheer volume of markets and odds now available in sports based betting allows the punter far more room to manoeuvre than traditional casino games and slots

Will the bookies ever really be beaten long-term – NO it’s a sound business model because you can guarantee if someone is winning, someone else is losing

Can you use what ive mentioned above to your advantage – Yes

Can you make profits – yes

Can you make loses – yes

No disrespect but I think you still have you gambling head on there. You’re still thinking you can beat the bookie, I’d like to think of myself as pretty clued up on football. So how come on most accumulators it’s a “home banker” that typically lets you down?

Also if I did ever get a big win, I would then just put higher stakes on until I lost what I had in the first place. So it’s exactly the same as any form of gambling, gamble until you lose everything. Wether that’s a few grand or your last £20, it’s all the same.

I agree, Christer. Gambling is gambling is gambling. Football is all about the random ‘edge’ similar to that found in the pseudo-random algorithms found in FOBTs.

There ARE professional punters, including arbitrage specialists, but it’s a niche area and requires hard work. Often, results are not guaranteed or too infrequent to be reliable. Professionals are very rare, incidentally.

As I’ve written before, FOBTs are the worst. Get a bent data analyst at FOBT HQ, and a player on the ‘inside’ and they can quickly clean up. FOBTs random? Not on your nelly. How do I know? I just know. Take it from me.

If you’re not a pro, then give up; don’t gamble. You’re a mug, like me, like most of us on here. We have to stop and put blocks in place to make sure we bloody do.

If there is anyone out there who has not seen the music video by Fat Les - "The Vindaloo Song," than it is well worth a look at on You Tube.

An England foorball song from the 1998 world cup in France which got to number 2 in the charts.

It was a take off of a great hit by Verve - "Bitter Sweet Symphony" which was filmed in the exact same location. You really need to watch that first to appreciate the humour in the Fat Les video/song.

An excellent track, Stephen; and a bloody catchy one too!

A gentle reminder to anyone tempting to bet tonight.

Don't. If England win then you'll pick up your winnings, bet them on something else and eventually lose. We always do that; that's why we're problem gamblers - we can't stop till we lose, and lose bad.

If you don't bet and England win - then ENJOY the victory! England in a World Cup Final FFS! This is history - don't remember it, years down the line, as a game where you had a bet on it - in the thick of addiction. It's not about the money - you'll lose it anyway. Not a nice memory. And we're talking lifetime memories here.

If England lose and you betted on it, well, you've lost twice. LOSE - LOSE. A memory that will stay with you forever.

If England lose and you didn't bet on it - it's a memory you can look back on and say: "I was strong; I didn't bet, what a personal triumph!"

Betting on it, the compulsive gamblers we are? Disaster, whatever way you look at it.

Don't bet on it. Don't be a mug. Please. Up to you............
