Hello Dunc's.

A big strength and honor straight back at you.

2 big thankyou's coming your way this morning, 1st for the support on my diary and in the past and secondly reminding me its fathers day. Hence you've inadvertently put a smile on a few faces.

Loved how you've evolved during these diary's and the true man youv'e become since the ice age of gambling.

Arise Topchap, you've earned it!

Afternoon Duncs, really glad to read you're back and well again after last week's chemical nightmare. You can't keep a good man down. Just shows how precious and fragile our mind is and how strong some drugs can be. I hope you're resting and still on the mend. I, like you, are a bit of a bibliophile. I've got more books than the local library, seriously I have. I used to enjoy scouring charity shops looking to find a well read book. I like the smell of them, the feel and the look of them on the shelf. For these reasons I can't take to kindles. However, I try not to buy any more books now for I feel as if I've got an edition of everything which has been written. I even sleep on books, stacked under my mattress to make it firmer, again you couldn't do this with a kindle.

I'm glad you delivered the rest of those leaflets and I hope you enjoy those well earned 'reddies.'

Keep enjoying life Duncs, take care.

Steve

Hi mate, thanks for your continued support, had some urges Saturday but beat them away, that's always going to be the case on and off but they are far and few between nowadays, just about how I deal with them.

Hope you had an enjoyable fathers day with the family, you deserve all the happiness a non-gambling life can give you.

Take care pal

I have to say Dunc that your very kind words about my Ed were well appreciated by him - especially the bit about his 69 years - as he is 71!

Evening diary.

Well there are not enough hours in the day, yesterday i logged in posted once on the Family and friends thread and then replied to my text message box, then fell asleep like someone turned out the light.

Well been at it working since early this morning then home to sort the hounds and everyone some supper.

Logged on and had a big smile put on my face, Welcome Ma, i know you have read my diary regularly, maybe on occasions its been the best way to keep up with things.

As I said when I came here, i needed help, to which the wonderful like minded folk here gave unconditionally, I feel that help has filtered through to all my dear family and the strength and togetherness has grown with it.

For me from early on I set out my stall to wave my anonymity as I felt it was like the ultimate block.

Gambling is a sole venture, every time over the yrs i gambled with other people it left me wanting, and annoyed i had shared my good luck. It would always result in another gambling binge, another destructive bout of action, so in recovery i wanted to use the fact that the world can know i am a compulsive gambler has had the affect of being a great safety belt, the more folk that knew the more folk i would let down if i gambled again. For me it works, ok there are folk who run off to lock the silver away!! But just as many who want to listen, learn and help.

To end its great to see my mum here, speaking with pride, the journey we embarked on has seen a few storms, we have had some moments of uncomfort and tears.

But this is outweighed ten fold by what recovery has brought us.

I made a choice today that bettered my tomorrow, and by that the effect it has on others is a positive one.

My name is Duncan mcquilken i am a compulsive gambler no bet since 23/01/2012

Hi there, please be careful you don't overdo things after being so poorly as I can imagine you steam in as if nothing happened.

Lots going on for me, some good, some not so good but feeling as safe as houses and all down to you. Can't express my gratitude enough but will keep trying and your reward will be my success.

Hey Duncs .

Tha is for popping and and your kind words...think your Mum would be a great asset to the forum and also maybe find it therapeutic too for herself......it's a way to safely travel through time in reflection ..

Wow ..I'm thinking maybe 3 generations of your family could be on the forum one of these days! ..as they say ..

One persons addiction can affect 5 family members but one persons recovery can affect many many more positively and in ways you may never know!

Keep posting when you can but no pressure ...just so long as your not overdojng it...nag nag nag ..

Evening diary.

Thanks for the kind words as always they mean much more than just words.

Enjoyed the company of Joe tonight watched the football and duck dynasty brilliant!! I must say, what a great program it always ends with a message about family values, something i sometimes feel society misses in the world we live in today.

Caught the program on gambling on itv earlier. Great to see the subject on prime tv and i take great heart that the problem of compulsive gambling is being taken more seriously and future generations will hopefully benefit from the subject being taken as a serious side affect of the leisure pursuit that is gambling. I used to get irate at these programmes, today i am just pleased to see the subject brought to the table.

I watched thinking i wonder how many folk are watching thinking sh#t that's me, or that's you!!

Lets roll back the rug it got kicked under and let the world see the destruction it reaps.

Is this work for future generations, for us the horse has left the stable so to speak, we have reeked havoc through our addiction, my view is lets educate future generations about the risks of gambling, as we do for n*******s, to think i do see less youngsters smoking today, its not fashionable, 25 yrs ago you were the odd one out if you didn't smoke. So if gambling takes the same route then future generations will be better educated to the fact that gambling carries more than just the risk of your stake money.

So i live in hope and am happy to see the subject brought to the table.

Today i made a choice. Not to risk what i have to lose.

Through the selfish act which for me would be to have a punt.

My name is Duncs i am a compulsive gambler no bet since 23/01/2012

Stepping forward never back.

'Every man Dies, But not Everyman lives.

Love that line Duncan and for the 2nd time this week you've made me ponder!

Have always enjoyed your journey. Walking and talking as you mozy along, unnasumingly the core of the great family around you. A massive salute to you.

And completely agree the basic family values being lost in this society we live in. We need i believe to know where our weakest links are and if we have no family values, well put it bluntly, we're foooked.

There was a splinter group on these diary's a couple of years ago which has gone from strength to strength and there drive is what you've mentioned in your last post. Completely agree your thoughts on smokers being the new leper's and fingers crossed years to come gambling will be in the same category. Who knows.

Keep stepping forward

ps, the last time i was called Sir, had to look over my shoulder to see who they were talking to!! 😉

Morning diary.

Paul it is with honour and strength my friend.

Today I will embark on a quest for justice for my youngest son.

For the past two years he has done a paper round for a national convenience shop. He took it from lily, who in turn took it from Joe.

He has been paid the same for the past 18 months and yesterday was told he has a choice.

Carry on the same and receive a 5 pounds a week pay cut or take on 14 more papers a day for an extra 3 pounds a week and in doing so make the other paper boy( a 68 yrs old man) jobless.

I went to see the manager of the shop, who said she can by orders of her boss spend 4pounds a day on delivery.

To be frank she was trying to pull the wool over callum's eyes, she said she could put it in writing but did not want to upset him !!!!!

I think she thought she could slide a 20% pay cut through undetected!!

So after a fruitless talk, i stated i require the details of the new pay structure in writing and when they plan commencement of this.

To end our lily works there part time and they were going to implement it in his pay this week, baring in mind he like all works in arrears.

So I have been on a fact finding mission.

The shop gets 3pounds per house per week in delivery charges, callum does 21 papers a day, seven days a week.

So doing the math, I am enraged.

Funny before, the lad wouldn't have stood a chance, i would either dismiss the fiver as loose change or would have seen it as the way things are.

Today No chance. Today i will write to head office and today i will ensure that this ridiculous matter is ended.

Hell hath no fury like a mac bumped!!!!!

I will not be defeated on this, for that i promise myself.

Duncs stepping forward never back.
