Giving in to the devil on your shoulder WILL mean that you WILL lose in the long term. There may be a rare occasion when you MAY win a little but greed will then take over and you WILL lose.

By not gambling, you and your family WILL be a winner!

Guaranteed!

Hi Dunc

Hope your meeting went well tonight. Good to see your positivity in your recovery and long may it continue. I'm sure you feel really proud of your achievements so far and rightly so. You have taken away something that has been a norm and a companion to you for most of your life and learning to live without it.

Take care and i look forward to seeing you all in a fortnight. Off on my hols Saturday so won't be in touch for a while but make sure you are still going strong when i return.

Keith

day 38

I really am up for this fight! sadly I have to report that the fella that last week in his 3rd meeting looked like he had started to arm himself for the fight has fallen victim to this destructive, devistating addiction and returned to gambling and as a result was not in attendance, all i say is i trully hope he can find it in himself to regain the courage to return to the rooms or seek help to help him in his addiction and the battle to conquer it.Myself i am re-armed with more medication to continue winning by NOT GAMBLING and am invigourated in the fact that last night i can say as i recover, that it is easy to witness the physical appearance of all vastly improves through abstaining and with it returns an inner strenght,a will to strive to be like the long standing members who simply have found a greater life through arresting there compulsion.

TODAY NO BET!

duncs one more step one more day.

Day 14 no smoking. And the weekend is upon us!!a time to share with family and not a minute to waste-ENJOY ALL!

Cheers for popping in on my diary. Completely agree - reading, writing, sharing and supporting on here is a good thing. The compulsion to do so is great.

Good for you that you feel invigorated mate. So pleased to see how deep we can dig when we have to. It's an amazing achievement that you've given up smoking. I have added it to my wish list but know that I'm not quite ready yet.

Here's to abstinence and a fuller life

Best wishes

thanks js I really do speak with a new found honesty when i say that and i will add this to my armoury for the road ahead.

Day39

A day which 5 weeks ago I would waste chasing that pipe dream, well today I have further armed myself by reading and replying to others diaries in the hope that together we can all remain in focus to be in recovery. 5 weeks ago I carried the fact that i am a compulsive gambler around with me like it would rule the rest of my life.Today I veiw it that I am a compulsive gambler and I rule it! through my own mindset, my family and now ever growing extended family through GA and this forum I am not ruled by a life which revolves solely around the next punt i will have, and that is a life which with these tools in hand i will use them as my stick to continue to rule not be ruled by my addiction.

Duncs compulsive gambler 39days no bet.

and for the record day 15 no smokes which i am also now feeling the benifits of no more coughing that lung up in the morning and more money left at the end of each day.stepping foward one more day.NO BET

Today our daughter is 16yrs old she has gone shopping with her mum for new clothes and a family roast tonight in which she got her own way and it is gammon and yorkshire pudding!a rule i break today and only for today because it is her day, a day folks i 40 days ago could not see a day which seemed to belong to another world. Today through no bet that is also my world and i simply want more of it. Smiles, laughter and tears of only joy. Stick in hand i step forward today to become stronger tomorrow. Duncs compulsive gambler 40 days no bet. Today no bet. The light is getting brighter every day.

Hey Duncs, sounds as though you are enjoying a great, and well deserved, family weekend. Well done on the gamble (and smokes!) free time you've under your belt. Glad to hear the the "light" is also brighter after 40 days. By the way, nothing wring with gammon and yorkie puds.......;-)

It's a great feeling when we can feel that light getting brighter isn't it?

Keep making the right choices and it will continue to do so.

day 40. Note to self. Duncs if you ever wobble, think you could risk it all by having a punt- just stop look back on today a day full of family love, true fun and full to the brim with laughter and see why for the rest of your days you can win and keep winning with NO BET! the only winning formula for you fella. P.s save yorkshire pud for the rare treat of roast beef the only marriage lol! !duncs one day leapt forward! Thankyou!

day41.

I am in some perverse way enjoying this battle to remain a recovering compulsive gambler, I find myself no longer looking at it as a sentence i am serving and more a new way of looking at things, for example i used to open the newspaper from the back pages and look first and foremost at were i was going to chase todays pipe dream, today i read the paper from the front and actually find myself more interested in daily life to the extent i buy more often than not a local paper and read that, i am still interested in sport but am equally as interested in current affairs,i know this is also helping fill the massive void of time i wasted on feeding my addiction. I embrace this new found attitude i have and it seems to be paying dividends in all aspects of my life at work and at home and long may it continue. I think GT you are so correct that the light is something i have been missing and long may it burn bright. NO BET today and tomorrow i grow

duncs one more step. and still not smoking and yesterday managed on one solitary gum!
