It's great to see other people as well as myself taking an interest in their favourite sport (in my case, football) again without a gambling head on. My boys are playing Hull today and all I'm thinking about is them winning - haha as obviously I want them to win the Premier League (hmm!) - but Hull drew against Man Utd so who knows?
Bitter pills, sometimes ill-thought responses on chat from me and I'm sorry for that but I wish all genuine recovering compulsive gamblers all the best. What do I know? Just my own experiences. Best wishes, Phil.
I was just reading a post on the discussions page and it made me think of a relatively small length of road by my local. Within says 300 yards there are 2 Bills, I laddy, 1 Fred and 1 C-oral + 2 arcades and 6 six pubs - all but one pub have machines. Wow that is some serious betting opportunities! I know the score with the FOBTs I think? They are only allowed four per shop so they just open another shop nearby? Is that right? If so, morally wrong, bad form Council. I know you don't want empty shops but I'd rather have yet another charity shop than another bookies. Best wishes, Phil.
Where I live there's 0 for about 6 miles. Luckily our local council don't allow them in although they have tried numerous time's. There seems to be so I believe a law which allows them to open up in old bank's something that lets them round the planning laws.
And because banks are closing at a rate of knots. Opportunities for the industry are on the increase.
And your right because their only allowed 4 machines per shop they take advantage of the planning laws and open more shop's in a shorter space
Very sneaky Deano
No bitterness intended here just my view as always. I can imagine the bookies employ psychologists on big money to work out how to manipulate vulnerable people especially with FOBTs which was never my poison thankfully. Bright lights, beeps and squeaks (an old raver's term to do with dance music!) Anyone know what happened to the restriction on bets from £100 to £2? I think there was so supposed to be some legislation last week but I have seen nothing about it being enacted in my paper? I am only bringing it up because I would like to know if the bookies have had to change the stakes despite the BS they came out with regarding the legislation. Best wishes, Phil.
Looks like it won't happen because the government group that put it forward were found to have vested interests with other industry groups that funded the research. Them being the makers of the pub and casino slots
So are you talking about government ministers? eg. Ian D-S? Don't want to be sued but I'm sure you know the guy I mean?
Will have a read tomorrow buddy. Got a three hour dental appointment at 9am - urgh. Thanks for the link, Cheers, Phil.
I only spent 20 minutes in the chatroom and it was heated and I think the moderator was a bit of a "job's worth" - sorry to be blunt. Always my view - this website is funded by how much per cent the bookies make so IT DOES matter if you can't even say the name of a particular firm. It's anonymous - who is going to get sued? It's the same with "responsible drinking" - The Portman Group - funded by the big - billion + plus companies and they never have a go at the major players - it's always some tiny company that they allege is encouraging under-age or inappropriate drinking with some product with shiny packaging etc. that no-one has ever heard of. They never criticise the big, money spinning brands - even a "non-brand" like some white lightning product with 28 units for £2. We are adults on this site and OK I think moderate your language but maybe the moderators on the chatroom sometimes need to cut us a bit of slack?

See? k-n*b!!!!
a word related to door handles....
Without any bragging or complaceny the man I am today is incomparable to a year ago. WIth support, listening and learning (most of the time!), some counselling, honesty and the realisation that my life and the way I was making my wife's life in particular and my own was awful I stopped. I am going to go to a GA meeting on day 365 but I still feel a) if your counsellor is sick what are you going to do? b) No chatroom - what are you going to do? c) GA meeting cancelled (not talking about people with sponsors who shouldn't be depended on 24/7 in my view) what are you going to do? Early days is hard - I know and I have the utmost respect for anyone who genuinely wants a different way of life but I think a lot of recovering gamblers don't realise they are stronger than they believe. I remember vividly day one. I remember day 55 etc. My point is that as well all the support available we have inner strength - make that decision and despite any adversity ODAAT (your interpretation) stick with it whatever it takes. My wife and I went through hell during the last 12 months - things I prefer to talk about in the chatroom than on my diary but I didn't gamble. Tomorrow might be different - I can't predict it but today I didn't gamble and all I've said in this post is just my view as always. All the best, Phil.
Affected by gambling?
