Today it all happens... Today it's like it was a few months ago.

Having not gambled for 54 days I had the sudden urge today to head to the bookies and spin the wheel on the FOBTs! Huge mistake! 35minutes later i was furiously walking out of the place £1150 down, my 2 months of savings and my savings for January all gone in less than an hour! How is this legal? I'm mean why are these things not capped for fragile minded people such as myself.

Gambling has been a huge problem for me since I was 18 (now 26) I'm im a DMP which means I can be debt free in 17months now which is awesome, and my partner and I are having a baby which will make an appearance August time. This has to STOP!!! Once and for all, I have to be the man of the house, I have to provide for my family. I can't bare this addiction ruining my unborn child's life. Today is day 1 of the rest of.my life.

Ricky x

P.s. has anyone used gamcare counselling before and does it help?

Hi Ricky - sorry to hear your news today - a position I have been in the past. My advice to you is two fold. Firstly go to the bookies and self exclude from the all the local bookies - can be done in one go. Secondly is I suggest that you put the finances in the hands of your partner, this will give her some comfort and also stop you (when) you get another thought that it is sensible to go and have an hour on the FOBTs. I got thoughts like that more when I had access to cash! Keep posting

Sorry Ricky, glad you have a plan in place with debt paying and you wonderful little family to help you remember what is important. I had an expensive fall back in august where I lost more in one day than I had ever lost in one day in the 15 years that I've had a compulsive gambling problem. So onward! 2019 is going to look good. That poisen of the loss is medicine to make you stronger in your resolve. yes? take care tara2

Thanks for the words of wisdom all! I am now banned from all the bookmakers in my area! No more debit card in my wallet, and have 2 busy months at work to keep my occupied. And save extra money from the overtime to get all things needed for baby's arrival. We have decided to have a weekend away in April if I can go until then gamble free, and my god I just know I am going to achieve that!

Hi mate,

I have used Gamcare counselling and found it very helpful, I'm only 4 sessions in but would definitely recommend it, although I did have to wait about 2 months to get an appointment, probably just depends on the area you're in.

Good luck!

Did the same thing about a month ago but I lost 3 grand. I just had me blinkers on and all I did was go back and forth adding money to the machine. It was just pure madness. Need all the blocks in place mate. If you can make it to April when the maximum stake reduction happens this will be a great help for me and you

JW the counselling is something I'm looking into now!

Boro I'm sorry to hear of you're loss, I'm glad they are capping the FOBTs to a 2pound stake but I. Positively thinking it won't matter to me as I'll still be gamble free when this comes in play, am I being arrogant or positive thinking this,?
