Made another blunder yesterday, lost £300 on roulette machine, It's been building up to this, first big loss of this year that can't be covered up! the signs where there but didn't stop. Why am I doing this to myself and family?

I NEED TO STOP THIS!!

I don't know, need to remember how a felt on Sunday as its been a while since it's happened like that. Am still gambling but have been able to walk away before it turned into a disaster, like a said it was building up to it as a was playing a lot again, plus gambling on other things. Just need to remember and keep it under control.

Hi there , Its not about keeping it under control but more about not gambling at all ? You know what happens , you go on and have a " small bet " and before you know it your back on the slippery slope ! That's just the way it is with us Compulsive gamblers , we can never just walk away and be happy with a small win ! Close down accounts , self exclude from everywhere and put everything you can between you and another bet .

A know what happens but it's hard to let go of the things that are not the problem, I understand gambling in any shape or form is bad for me but it's the machines that are my down fall, I enjoy a few quid on a football coupon and a lotto ticket like everyone else at the weekend, it's one of the things you n your mates/colleagues chat about, but I wouldn't and haven't ever put £100's on a coupon even when I've had a few quid but can put that into a machine in minutes?

Those machines need to be banned as they can take everything you've got before you know it! I haven't been into a bookies since Sunday and the only bet ave had has been my single lotto ticket with the Numbers I've done for nearly ten years, I just want to be normal, if only I never played those things?

Hi - I will tell you now you will not just stop playing through willpower alone. As Alan said you need to close any accounts and self-exclude from ALL local bookies at least. The hurt of the last loss will subside soon enough, always does then off you will go again dabbling, winning, maybe winning more then boom 'that' big loss will hit. I have been on this site 10 years and am yet to see anyone just stop without taking preventative action. Those who don't just drift on kidding themselves they will stop, those who do take serious action have real success. Hope to read you have self-excluded by the end of the week.

Dave

I agree they won't be banned. Would be handy but life doesn't work like that. Imagine this - alcoholics want alcohol banned, some smokers wish cigarettes were banned so they didn't have the choice to buy them, we want FOBTs banned etc etc etc. As with anything in life there are choices - if one can choose to gamble they can also choose not to.
