I must admit I was quite surprised by my reaction as it was just so unexpected. But I thought back to what I had learn in Allen Carr's book and I think as long as I always remember what it taught me then I will be alright.

Day 26

This morning I picked up the keys and moved into my new flat and I honestly don't think I've ever felt prouder of myself.

Had it not been for gambling I could have achieved what I did today so many years ago but after the journey it took me on it certainly feels so much sweeter to achieve it now.

If just 4 weeks without gambling in my life anymore I can do this then the possibilities in my life really are endless and that excites me so much. This is the start of the rest of my life and I'm determined to enjoy every single minute of it.

Day 30

The days are starting to rack up a bit quicker now. I have a week off work now and hoping I don't get too bored so trying to keep myself busy. Going to have a walk into town now and get myself a Wok and do some cooking tonight, the flat is starting to feel like my own already.

Stayed at my exes last night and I think we are making some progress. I'm going to take her out this weekend for her birthday with a few drinks and maybe some food. If I stay on this gamble free path then my future can be nothing but bright!

Hi JW

I have purchased the Allen Carr book, will report back.

Well done on 30 days, when I get an urge I will simply invisage an £8 billion industry goading me in and saying, make me richer you mug!

The book I mentioned I was reading says you can win at gambling by not giving them a single penny and smiling and saying, you are not getting richer off me, take that!

Day 32

Good point Shaun, we are absolutely nothing them but a number. They don't care because once they have bled us dry they know there'll be someone else waiting to give them everything they have and probably more.

Not much to report on myself really as I approach the 5 week mark. Just trying to keep myself busy pottering on, went to Argos yesterday to get a couple of things for the flat and it wasn't until I was walking past that I remembered there's a bookies next door. I'm in honest I didn't even bat an eyelid, but on the way home thought about all of the wasted hours I've spent in there over the years. I probably could never have envisaged the day I walked past there with money in the bank and was able to keep on walking.

Day 36

Had a very busy but fun weekend, surprised myself that I haven't posted for 4 days but I feel like I am starting to live a normal life like everyone else now and it is so satisfying. Still very early days of course but feeling just as determined and confident as I did on day one.

Day 39

Sitting watching Good Morning Britain and they are reporting that the Labour party are planning to crackdown on problem gambling by addressing the issues with adverts during in play sporting events and so on. Was very good to see but unfortunately they only reported on it for about 20 seconds, clearly it's not as appealing and important an issue as 'is it acceptable to do your make up on a train.'

Maybe one day it will gain more importance ... :-/

Looking at your previous post about the Tv coverage , unfortunately Gambling has alway's been the hidden addiction to most people, ie not many " Visable sign's " , drug's and drink you can usually tell so it's a question of " Out of site out of mind " which is probably why it gets less coverage ? .

40 day's is no small milestone , so big yourself up and enjoy your day JW :))

Congratulations and all the best buddy :))

Day 41

Thanks A9 much appreciated as always. I understand what you're saying but in my opinion that's the exact reason that it deserves even more coverage, who knows maybe one day it will get it eh?

Its my dayshift weekend at work so 6-6 today and tomorrow. Got home tonight and caught the QPR v Norwich game, now watching a bit of the darts and then going to attempt to stay awake for the Joshua fight later on. All accompanied by a few beers. As I sit in my flat rediscovering my love for sport now that gambling is out of the picture I'm starting to reflect on how far I've come and what I've achieved in such a small space of time already. Feeling quite proud and optimistic for the future.

Day 42

Haha glad I was able to make you smile signalman! I did enjoy the fight, even if I was fighting myself to keep my eyes open by that point ... Was worth being tired today though!

Day 42 marks 6 weeks since I decided to change my life forever.
