Morning wp thanks for the message. Very true whats gone has gone and it aint coming back. Somthing I have had to learn the hard way as many others have I'm sure. No gambling sure means a healthier mind if nothing else. Keep at it -) All the best to you Blocked.

thanks s.a and ands (mushy heads are for gamblers ands) ...well today i have reached 280 days (40 weeks)...am i happy with my progress ?? yes but could be better..why as a comp gambler do i always want more..i live for the odaat theme but just wish i gave this up years ago..whats gone has gone, i have learned here to look forward...what has changed in 40 weeks ?? i have managed to avoid all the major racing festivals and also my football and sports bets..yes i miss my race days and the fresh air but my councillor once pointed out i can take a trip to the beach for that..no excuses !! ..i no longer spend fortunes on our friends across the sea lottery multiple bets looking for that life changing big win...i no longer shake or scream (tho my ex at times can make me want to lol) nor do i feel soul destroyed (1st post) but do still sometimes get fed up.these were never good for the old ticker anyways lol...what did i do ?? changing banks and having basic cash card has helped me big time...not being able to afford the satellite in the clouds sports channels has also helped...they even took their freeview sports news away a few weeks back...how selfish of them lol....i no longer get the heart racing on a wet tuesday night of maybes a derry city v cliftonville corners/bookings match outcome...on the downside with no sports news (i dont justify buying papers when i can get them leftover on a train lol) and by not doing the premier fantasy football this year i am way out of sorts regarding players stats/transfers etc..as for the other leagues i have to apologise for my ignorance as i used to spend hours on end on a friday night studying the stats looking for that big win which of course never ever came... POSITIVES of course there has to be but i still want more....i am well aware that i am one bet away from a big fall and disaster to strike but MOST of all its a special thanks to YOU people on here who have posted on my diary in getting to where i am today..i am a far better person NOT gambling....today i will not bet tomorrow i wont bet the fight goes on we can do this folks....

Well done on reaching 40 weeks.

I imagine your life is unrecognisable to the existence you had 40 weeks ago, it really is some achievement to go 280 days without something you have done for years, you broke the habit / disease and are doing great,

Take Care

Hi wp,

Thanks for your post. I went and read the thread you mentioned straight away, and it certainly was sobering.

As I say, Im continuing to NOT do the lottery. Its just not worth the risk, but I still don't see the point in throwing a ticket away on the rare occasion I am given one. It has literally only happened twice in the last 18 months, so its going to be a rare situation to be put in.

Weirdly, if had thrown that ticket away, I still think I would have been preoccupied with thoughts of 'what if it was a winner?' which could have done bad things to my gambling head too.

Thanks for pointing out that thread though, because it has sort of reminded me that you have to keep working at recovery.

Take care,

f x

Hi winningpost,

I am new too this forum and did not understand the gravity of what I am facing. Reading other peoples diaries has shocked me but also helped me to be aware of my addiction. The support of others seems to of greatly helped you and I hope I can follow your lead. Beat wishes for the future
