Hi

This is day 1 of my recovery diary!

I am a gambling addict who is trying to quit for good. I have been a smoker in the past and managed to quit but oh boy this is much harder! Im 33 and started gambling maybe 10 years ago. My current debts are around £800 which I will be able to repay as long as I stay away from online bookmakers.

I will take 1 day at a time and I hope to complete this journey.

Thanks

Welcome, Delboy.

Firstly, you've made a good first move by posting here. You've acknowledged you have a serious problem. The money situation might not be serious to some, but £800 is a big lump and all just wasted away.

You need to ban yourself from on-line casinos and there's software to do that, you can phone Gamcare for details or look around this site.

Unless you trust yourself not to gamble again. Can you? It's always best to make sure you can't gamble again by blocking yourself. Why take the chance; you know what you're like ...

Remember, gambling isn't just about the money. It's the time you're wasting on a wasteful, solo, anti-social activity. You may lie to others to cover your tracks.

You may become morose or self-loathing when you lose. Great for your friends and loved ones - not.

So it's time to stop today. No more - you are free of it! What's the point? Because if you win, you give it all back and then lose some more. So what's the point?

Vow to yourself, every morning: I will not gamble today. I want to live a happy life, much, much better than the miserable alternative.

Time to really step up Delboy. This is serious; you know that. But what you're going to get out of it is a much happier life for you, and everyone around you will be delighted to get the 'old' Delboy back!

Things could be - dare I say it -Lovely Jubbly!

All the best, and keep posting.

This is the second day

I am just so glad I dont have large amounts of funds in my bank account because I would have blown the lot.

I find strength from the others on tis forum, we are not alone.

Day 3

I honestly hate gambling, all these adverts on the tv/internet/radio make me sick!

Talk about trying to draw people back in!
