Hi everyone,

I am currently 195 days gamble free. Feel great and enjoy life again, I'm just wondering has anyone else struggled to save money after they stopped gambling? I've got about £1000 saved when in reality I'd off spend about £6-7000 in the time I've stopped gambling. I'm on top off my bills and maybe spending a bit extra on my kids because I feel guilty about my gambling in the past, but now I wonder how did I ever afford to gamble in the first place as I'm just getting by, but not for one second am I complaining was just wondering if anyone has felt like this before,

Thanks.

I think when we are in the gambling cycle we makes excuses not to spend money on anything but gambling. I’d spend birthday/Xmas money on slots rather than buy things for myself. I think once we are out of the cycle we then start to spend money on  “ordinary” things. That was my experience anyhow.
I’m the same as you, I look at my account and wonder how I could ever afford to throw so much away every week.

Thanks @vin47

Yeah my wife keeps telling me if I was still gambling I wouldn't have a penny, just got a idea in my head years ago before I stopped thinking imagine I never gambled I'd be rich, I realise in one way I am I pay my bills on time and look after my family well, so I suppose at the end off the day that's what it's all about.

Thanks. Anyone out there who is struggling remember it does get easier with time. Good luck.

I found that after giving up gambling, I did become rich - just not in the financial sense mate.

Looking after family, not worrying about being behind with bills, being able to afford to pay for those expenses that come out of nowhere (vehicle repairs, vet bills etc.) relieved a lot of stress from my life and gave me a clearer outlook.

I may never get the mustang I always wanted, but I know that my family is provided for, I sleep better at night and I am not looking forward to payday to just be skint the next day. I think its all about balance.

If your family are well looked after and the bills are paid on time, you are actually doing a lot better than most (especially under current conditions).
