Overcoming boredom

Ok so I’ve been gamble free for around 7 weeks now, I confessed to my wife and took a loan to settle all debts and then signed up for gamstop for 5 years but I’m finding time alone tough, these are the hours I would fill with playing online slots and I’m feeling pretty bored in my own company without this. I think that now all the worry is gone about juggling my finances so I could hide this from my wife is something I got so used to that I’m bored without it! This was a kind of a buzz, although an extremely unpleasant one, in itself. My mind is unoccupied and it’s kind of wierd! Does this sound familiar to anyone?

How did you all feel after stopping, what did you do to fill the hole?

I don’t want to go back as I know it’s unhealthy and most of all I don’t want to lose my wife, I’m pretty certain I won’t as I’ve taken all the ways I can secretly gamble away, I’ve closed all other accounts and only have access to the joint account.

Does this feeling, urge, boredom with ones self dissipate eventually?

Hey

My trigger was boredom too. For me I've taken up excercise and cooking!

Wow,

I too seem to be in the absolutely same boat. Nearly every time that that I have gone back is because of boredom.

Have tried all kinds of stuff from exercise, cooking, movies, reading, social media, but nothing really fills the space. Teaching my daughter for a year surely did help and I enjoyed it.

Still know that I have to find that pass time.

But from my best abstinence of 4 years from 2010 to 2014, I can say the feeling certainty  dissipated.

But what ever may be the case, it is not worth going back to.

Well done on 7 weeks.

We are both going to look for things to do on weeknights as at the moment we flop in front of the telly after work every night just waiting for the weekend to come round again. And as my wife has done so much for me I’ll do something for her for a change and have agreed to take dance classes with her, she’ll probably get tired of me standing on her feet but I’ll give it a go. I’d also like to brush up my spanish as I have friends in Madrid and visit quite often, it would be nice to be able to get to a conversational level. Just got to fill that gambling sized hole in my life.
