Hi All,

Today I have self excluded from my sports betting account. I plan to stop gambling completely. I will post regularly on here to help track and encourage my recovery.

Thanks for reading!

Hi Db, I'm into sports betting myself and it's just a waste of time and money. I've never made profit from it. If your lucky you might even break even. I find it's too much stress for such little reward.

Good luck with stopping. Just take one day at a time.

Hi DB.

Sports betting ... let me think .... the next time you have the urge , thing of all those smug bas*ards , ex footballers and presenters , actually promoting this s**t , they are laughing at you , and getting paid for your misery .

How dare they ... remember there smug faces before you ever think of doing it again , especially ' quite literally  " s**m Ray winstone " .

Thanks for the replies both - I hope you are both well and beating your habits.

6th day gamble free now, and to be honest I haven't had any urges at all since giving up.

This is a pretty obvious point... but it shows so clearly that if you put up barriers to gambling / remove easy access, it makes it so much easier to resist. Before I never really made any serious attempted to give up... just leaving the account open and telling myself i wasn't going to gamble was just a false attempt really, and freezing the account for a set period only meant I would be gambling as soon as it was unfrozen - I would be counting down the days.

Although having said this I'm sure urges will come at some point.... that will be when I need to be strong!

Thank you for posting on my diary db23. I appreciate your support.

You have acknowledged that you are a compulsive gambler and that gambling has a detrimental effect on your life. You want to do something about it and are prepared to take all necessary steps to assist in your recovery.

That is it in a nutshell really so sit back and enjoy the ride.

Sorry db23 if my post came across as simplistic but in a way our journey to a more meaningful life is fairly straightforward. In the past I choose to complicate it.

We all have our story to tell and none of us is the same but we all share a desire to be rid of the affliction that is compulsive gambling. I think that together we are stronger and it pleases me to have friends like yourself to share the journey with.

I wish you good times and happy days on your gamble-free adventure.

18 days gamble free....  things are going well, but need to make sure to stay disciplined!

no real urges to speak of, but I know they will come at some point - that will be the real test.
