Ok, so if you are new into recovery like me and are easily offended please don't read on. If you don't already know the truth and want to hear it then please carry on.

Compulsive gambling. Our brain tells us that it entertainment alongside the industry with its adverts. The contents of those adverts don't sell a product, they normalise a lifestyle. For me as a compuslvie gambler I have no control over gambling. You may think you can control it, you may think that you will get a big win one day and walk away, you may just consider its giving up a hobby, the truth is that being a compulsive gambler in action will never ever end well. It doesn't matter what stage you are at now, how many lies you have told, how much money you have lost, how much debt you have, if you have a good job or not, how much time you have wasted, this won't end well.

This is a mental illness and is all consuming. Some might be binge gamblers or weekend gamblers it makes no difference. Eventually gambling addiction takes you to no man's land. It has no boundaries. It takes your money, time, mental wellbeing being. It won't rest at that until it takes more, which I'm not going to detail in this post. It causes serious harm to those we love, friendships and colleagues. It just keeps on taking and not giving.

There is no good ending that comes at the end of gambling. How many people on here, got a big win and thought, hey, that's me done now I'm going into recovery.

Everyone lands here for one reason....no more. No one is going to be fixed after 30 days, 60 days, 180 days or 1000 days. Anyone who has years of recovery that I've met on my short journey of recovery have a common belief.

Take it seriously, put in the work each day, don't underestimate it and think you are cured, keep a reminder of the pain.

My now sponsor said to me the first time we met, come to 11 more meetings, if it's not for you then I will refund you the pain.

So for anyone reading this post, you can stop, you deserve it for yourself, do it for yourself, accept it's going to be a rollercoaster and just get on with it

Hard truths Stusrt.  But every word rings true.

The adduction is without compassion and will stop at nothing until it takes everything.

You can rest after 3 or 6 months.   Things start to heal a bit but the horrible monster still lurks in the background...ready to pounce again.
