Hi all.
The time has come for me to take my addiction seriously and to do something about it.
I have been playing online slots for around 18 months and have gone through periods where I am spending up to £1000 per day. Amazingly I am in very little debt and in all honesty even I am amazed by that. At one point I did owe in excess of £10,000 and somehow through continuing to gamble I got very lucky and managed to pay off all but £2000 of debt. I immediately cut up all of my credit cards and have therefore avoided building up any more debt.
However, with no credit cards available I have now found myself spending my wages and this is going to cause me big problems if I don't deal with it now.
I have previously gone around 80 days without gambling only to fall off the wagon after the death of a friend. I have already gambled today so tomorrow will be day 1. I have called Gamcare this afternoon which is something I have never done before. They are arranging me some councelling to help me to deal with my triggers and I really hope that I never play online slots ever again.
From now on I intend to win every single day by staying away from the slots.
Wish me luck on my new journey!
Great place to come for support brum...and fantastic that you have called the helpline....all very posative....like you only a slots was my vice...but that was over 8 weeks ago now....not been easy..but getting so much better every day....good luck x
Thanks Loxxie. Well done on reaching 8 weeks.
Today is my day 1. I didn't gamble yesterday after I called the Gamcare helpline and posted my thread on here so that is something at least.
Welcome aboard the journey brum....there will be ups and downs along the way....but each day that passes gamble free will make you feel so much better....early days are the hardest...so brace yourself my love...get things in place to make it easier for you not to gamble....and take one day at a time....and remember there's always someone on here to shout to if you need support xx
Thanks! I'm pleased to say that I am the end of day 1 gamble free. May this be the start of a long (and hopefully permanent) spell of being free from the lure of the greedy slots.
Everyday counts brum...well done x
Day 3 of continuing to win by staying away from gambling. Today has not been too difficult, however I am all too aware that things can change in the blink of an eye. I have previously gone a whole day without even thinking about gambling before blowing £500 an hour before bed.
I am now taking each day and even each hour at a time to escape from this awful addiction.
On to day 4!
Quick update. I am on day 6 today and I have not been near the slots. I know they say that you shouldn't replace one addiction with another but I have recently bought a Fitbit and changed to a new gym.
Some of my friends also have a Fitbit and it is quite addictive to try and beat how many steps they are taking each day. If I am going to be addicted to something then I guess walking and keeping fit is probably the way to go.
I'd definitely recommend it to anyone else who needs something to take their mind off gambling. We could even start a group where we all add each other as friends.
Well done brum...good on you...can't see any harm in replacing gambling with a fitness based thing....amazing...I'm a bit of a nerd.
What's a fit bit lol
End of day 7 and very pleased to have gone a week gamble free. My bank balance is improving and so is my fitness so life is looking good.
Hey Loxxie.
A Fitbit is an activity tracker that you wear on your wrist. It basically counts how many steps you take each day and how many calories you burn etc. It's quite cool because with the mobile app you can compete against your friends as you try to hit a daily target of 10,000 steps.
I'm quite competitive with things like that so it has been motivating me to go to the gym more and take the dog for extra walks etc.
Ooh...yes...had somebody in the bar with one ....I'd really like to get one when fiances improve...which they will now I'm not gambling....hope you've had a good weekend x
Sorry not checked in for a while, however that does not mean that I have gone back to my old ways.
Today is day 14 gamble free which is the longest I have gone in quite some time. I'm still using the gym most days, working hard on my business and spending time with my family.
Right now life is good. I hope everyone else is doing well!
Glad to hear it brum....well done you....2 weeks done is great...its really hard those first few days so youve done amazing....concentrate on your family and buisness...all posative...I've just taken a job to prop up my pub whilst trade slow...also keeps me extra busy ...take care...keep all guards up and stay safe x
How exciting. What sort of job is it?
Day 15 today. I have had an email about some amazing bonus from one site and a letter through the post about free spins from another site. Both were binned straight away. However, this really annoys me as I have self excluded from both of these sites. It is funny how they do this to coincide with payday as well.
Well they have had their lot from me so they can try all they want.
Affected by gambling?
