Hi all.

Day 16 GF for me today and it's payday... Slight niggle in the back of my mind saying gamble a tenner, but we all know what that leads to.. so I am staying strong!

Enough about me, I was thinking whilst watching TV earlier I saw 3 adverts for gambling website in one singular ad break and it got me thinking. How many people are paying into these websites? Paying into these companies with money they can't afford?

I googled it and can't get a straight answer, I'm pretty sure its more than the government want to make out as well, but for them to be able to afford to have so much advertising on television shows its a massively growing market and sucking people in, which makes me feel sick to my stomach.

I reckon 35% of people in the UK have gambling problems. What do you think?

The industry has the moral low ground in the way that it actively tempts and draws in the vulnerable. But gambling’s nothing new, weighted dice, backgammon, playing cards, the horse racing industry have all been around a whole lot longer than the machines and on line websites. Ditto alcohol, apparently Noah had an unfortunate episode after the Flood.

It’s the individual, not society, who looks for whatever it is that the act of gambling/drinking gives him or her and it’s the individual who overcomes addiction or doesn’t. It’s irrelevant how many people are affected because addiction is an individual’s problem. Therefore the core of your threads should be about you. Society’s problems are not irrelevant but they’re secondary, only after you’re sorted, otherwise they become a distraction.

Stay safe.
