First time I've admitted to myself that I have a problem. From reading post I feel like I have the similar desire to do more with the money I earned. I just got paid £2600 but have blown £600 since the 28th. My sports betting has gotten ridiculous, I am betting on 50/50 outcomes where the bookie has the edge.

This may sound small compared with others onthia forum but I would like advice on how people resist the urge when it's constantly being advertised. My main problem is online betting.

Hi Paul

Welcome to the forum and well done for finally admitting you have a problem with your gambling. Trying to resist the urge can be a challenge, you could try using a blocking software to help you with your online betting. Please see the attached link http://www.gamcare.org.uk/get-advice/what-can-you-do/blocking-software#.VBwD8fldXww

For further assistance please call the Netline http://www.gamcare.org.uk/support-and-counselling/frontline- services/netline#.VBwDvfldXww or you can speak to an adviser on 0808 8020 133

Hopefully you will get some more feedback on the forum to support you in your recovery.

All the best

Cade

Hi Bora2015.

You begin to resist the urges when you reach out for real help like you are doing here. Talk it through with gamcare, with people close to you and put the serious blocks in place. You will need to be ready to block gadgets or even hand them over

You will resist gambling when you finally see it as the mugs game it is. They can advertise all they like but you will just get to a stage where you see it as a losers game and get annoyed that they advertise at all.

Try and rationalise what you have been doing and it will show you are ignoring the real odds. Even the bookies have been forced to state thats its entertainment and not to be treated as a regular income.

They want your money and you have handed them £600. Focus on that.

It does come together when you are ready to quit. Please dont wait months like I did. It needs acting upon now. It will take more than just your willpower. The plan is that you will eventually wonder why you gambled because you will have better things to do in life and you will be a better person

Best wishes

Hi Bora,

Welcome. Online, 50-50 (Evens) bets, large stakes. That was my problem! Have a read of my history posts. I've only been on here for about a month. I was so sure about my 1/1 or 10/11 bets I never thought I could lose! HOW WRONG! Made my chasing of losses even worse. Its got me no where apart from 15K of debt.

What stops me from gambling now or the urge too........... Well still early days, but owning up to my addiction and telling my wife everything and all the heartache and tears that cam ewith it is one. The others are attending GA meetings and this forum where you can text freely with people who understand.

All the best hope I've been of some help.
