My son is a gambler at the tender age of 24. He always feels bad after gambling, he has been suicidal. So are there any success stories out there? Is there a road to freedom from this horrible and dangerous illness? And I have to say I hate these gambling companies who steal people's lives and make slaves out of people, so ---- you *********** and the rest of you abismal gambling companies.
This silence bodes well..
Of course there are success stories. I am sure the vast majority of those people no longer engage here and move on with their lives. Some are still here and post regularly.
yes there are success stories
read some of the recovery diaries to see that
especially duncanmac's
gamcare can help, counselling can help and ga can help if the person engages the help and accepts what gambling addiction is
Hi JTC,
Welcome to our Forum and thank you for posting.
It sounds like you are going through a difficult time with your son and his gambling and things have become quiet critical with your son feeling suicidal. I can hear your anger and frustration and you seem to want to know whether there is hope. Well there is and you are not alone. Consider getting in touch with us via our Freephone helpline number on 0808 80 20 133 to speak with an Adviser about what’s going on and for some support. Perhaps also encourage your son to get in touch with us so that we call talk a bit about what’s been going on and look at what his options are. We are here to support both of you.
Keep posting, and take care.

I got the urge to come on here online but not a gambling site ! months not thinking about a bet .
Thanks everyone for your support. Things are not good, our son will not talk to us and is isolating himself In his bedroom. Today he was angry because we wouldn't let him use the car, it's like he's in denial. We have tried to get him to seek help, we facilitated a counsellor for him, he won't attend he seems stuck ahhhh it's making me feel so low
Hi JTC
I wish I could offer you some magic words of comfort but I can't. Its likely to be a very long road ahead.
Your son needs you to be there for him, and know he can come to you when he is ready to ask for help.
If he isn't ready to accept help and still believes he is in control of it, he is unlikely to take the help seriously.
I can only go off my own experience and being able to ask for help earlier on would of saved me a lot of pain.
Stick with him and you will get through this together. If you could get him to read some peoples stories on here he might realise he needs help more than he thinks.
Affected by gambling?
