All a bit new to this but i will try anything to see if it will help.

I have been Gambling now for around 10 years and it has always been a problem. It started out as Fruit Machines and then more to online Gambling which is the worst of all. Because it is on a screen it doesn't even seem like real money. Things have recently got a lot worse i lost quite a bit of money last night and then again today i just can't seem to stop even though it is ruining my life.

Gambling is on my mind 24/7 i even sometimes dream about it which sounds crazy! I just can't seem to find anything to help me to stop. If anyone has any tips or ideas that would help would be much appreciated. I don't want to go on feeling worthless and stressed all the time.

i want to enjoy my life and not have to rely on Gambling for enjoyment

Thanks

Hi seany... Thanks for your message of support today. I don't really feel that i am in a position to offer advise at this early stage in my recovery but as someone who had an online gambling a few years back my way of overcoming it was through self exclusion. That is going to my first step - going into the bookies and self excluding. I was thinking that i was going to be embarrassed but after just thinking about stuff it cant be any more embarrassin that the feeling i get when i walk into the bookies and ask the staff to put 300 into the machine so i can bet 100 a time on cartoon dogs - you can do it mate. Keep in touch!

Thank you for your support i will do my best! I had the temptation to do it again today but i haven't yet, focused on doing some exercise to try and take my mind off it. The damage is done with all the money i can't get back which is the thing that hurts the most! I want to tell my parents as they have known about it in the past i just don't want to worry them and put more stress on them

Please try and stay away from gambling today seany - you have been able to resisit temptation so far so when your staying away from online slots why not go in and withdraw any cash and get the accounts blocked ... That way when the urges become so strong that you have to act on them you wont be able to because your account is non accessible.. Good luck!

What a surprise lost the last bit of money that i had! It was inevitable it would happen sooner or later. Have cancelled my online accounts and have self excluded. Still doesn't make me feel much better as i now haven't eaten in two days because i have gambled all my money. I need to tell my mum but she will only go crazy at me which is more stress on her and me! Why do i do it to myself!

Seany firstly in sorry to hear that you lost the last of your money today - i hope that im wrong but from your comments im not really sure if you are completely ready to give it up yet. What i have done in the past couple of days in drawn up a plan of action which will show me exactly where my monthly wages will be going to - after bills etc i will have around 1200 to spend and i have drawn up a list of the things i want to buy for the next six months. By having a list of buying a lot of things i like the look of (one of those curvy tellys) is giving me the incentive to drive on and give up this once and for all. Why don't you be proactive and do something similar so you can show your mum that your serious and were you want to be - and you can do it.

heya 🙂

not gambled since Sunday i know its not a long time but it hasn't been on my mind. I have a black rubber band on my wrist that i got given at the Gambling Clinic to remind me not to gamble which i had lost! Found it yesterday so hopefully that will give me some inspiration! I am in so much debt and don't know how i am going to survive the next few months as work starts to quiet down and money isn't as good as would be the previous months.

i really like the idea of a Diary or making a list of the things i want so i have something to focus on. Exercising has helped i am trying to change my lifestyle so that i am not just sat in on my lap top!

How are things with yourself?

Things aren't bad at all - i have self excluded from all of the bookies that i used to go into frequently and i have a few more photos in my wallet so that when i see a bookies that i may have forgotten about i can simply just go in a self exclude .... As we go into the last week before payday i still have quite a bit of money so ill be using it to buy some things for myself and my family instead of pumping it into a fobt - i can remember losing 500 in the space of about four minutes ... Looking back now its crazy and will never happen again!
