Hi Everyone
My First time here, trying to open up about my addiction issue and take back control of my life.
Â
I’m 31, and can honestly remember gambling for all of my adult life. I’ve made money and lost money but consistently have been going deeper and deeper into the red over the years. Recently gambling has ruined my relationships with long term partner and new girlfriend and I’ve had enough of it ruining my life now.Â
today I blocked myself on GameStop. I downloaded the Gamban app onto my phone and my laptop. Tomorrow I go to a group session to really let it soak in that I have an addiction issue and hopefully this is the start of my taking control of my life back whilst there’s still time to make something of myself.
luckily I don’t have a lot of debt related to gambling… maybe 1-2k overall. I can manage this debt with my work income. Now that I can’t access gambling online, the biggest challenge will be to stop myself from stepping into betting shops… of which there are plenty in London.Â
1 day at a time I will focus do my best. Hoping to connect with others on the journey and use this forum as a support network.Â
would appreciate any tips on what others have done to help stop themselves from stepping into betting shops.
Wishing everyone here the best with each of your journeys.Â

Hi,Â
Well done for coming on here. Massive achievement.
Is there anyone that can take over financial control? When you have access to money, it just makes it so much easier to gamble. It’s not impossible as us compulsive gamblers can always find a way if we want to.
If someone can take over the control, you will then have to be accountable to your actions.Â
I’m almost 2 years and 2 months GF and it was the best decision I made. Just grab hold of and accept any help you can. You cannot do this alone and the more people you talk to, the easier it will be (hopefully!)
Take a look at Gordon Moody, they offer retreats and counselling. I learned so much about myself and gambling.
Wishing you lots of luckÂ

C394 have you gambled since?
Blocking online gambling sites is definitely a strong first step. Keeping busy with hobbies or tasks that demand focus can really help avoid the temptation of walking into betting shops.
