Hi
My name is ben and ive been in recovery from gambling addiction for the past 18 mths (10 wks since my last bet)
I have recently started a new job and my workmate bangs on about gambling. I dont find it annoying because just 'cos i cant gamble it dosnt mean i should frown upon people who can gamble normally. I guess the point i wanted to make was is that i listen along and nod content in the knowledge that im in recovery and i dont want any of that cr** in my life anymore.
I can and have had a productive life without gambling and i will try, try, try for the rest of my natural life to stay in recovery and stay gamble free (even if i do stumble a bit along the way) Thanks for listening x
Hi Ben, welcome to the Forum and very well done for reaching ten weeks, a great achievement my friend.
I am glad you feel content when you hear your work colleague talk incessantly about gambling - let him plough his own furrow; help him if he wants it, but don't pay any attention because you know that he will lose in the end.
There is every chance you will have a productive happy life my friend. Life won't always go your way, but if you are not gambling, then you will be ready for when the good times roll round again. A lot of people make that mistake - they start gambling when life drags them down, then they come through it and have to wade through mountains of debt,
Stay strong and positive my friend - you are doing really well and I sincerely hope it continues.

Well done on 10 weeks ben.
Alot of my workmates gamble, which is not uncommon as I work in the industry.
Nobody knows about my problem, but when others start talking to me about there recent wins or bets I just act disinterested and soon enough they will move on to tell others.
You cant ever forget that euphoric feeling when you win and all we ever want to do is tell the world.
Stay strong,
Scambling
Hi Ben,
Perhaps you need to learn the Factual Laws of Gambling in order to successfully stay away from gambling, they did help me:
The Factual Laws of Gambling:
1. Every bet will lead to financial loss.
2. The next bet continues a gambling losing streak.
3. There is not any such thing as luck with gambling.
4. Whatever the gambling house edge, that percentage of money bet is lost.
5. There is not any skill in gambling as far as making money is concerned.
6. Gambling which involves handicapping is betting on random numbers.
7. Being close to winning money is a false perception in gambling.
8. Gambling long enough results in losing all money, credit and assets.
9. It is impossible to permanently win money on gambling house games.
10. The only way to beat gambling is to never bet.

I found your reply to be both offensive and inappropriate.
Your reply had nothing to do with the content of my original post. You used it as a platform to wade in with your 'pearls of wisdom'
Addiction and recovery is complex and varies from person to person. you will do well to remember that.
Ive been reading a few of your posts and you seem to adopt a 'cruel to be kind and harsh approach. you should not do this when you do not know the full facts.
Anyone reading this thread please read my original post and then read his and you will understand where im coming from.
Thankyou jamesp and scambling for your supportive replies x
Hi Ben
I hope you don't find this offensive and insulting, but since I stopped gambling nearly 8 months ago, after 40 years of losses, I know I have become a far more tolerant person, along with countless other benefits. I do go to GA once a week and for me 95% of it is bull of one sort or another but the other 5% keeps me going back. I can half listen to the 95% just in case there is a little well disguised gem but otherwise just file it away in the BS folder. Although that 95% does nothing for me I kind of appreciate that maybe it is helping the person contributing in one way or another. In terms of self worth perhaps. I let other people have their say and if I don't like it I move on, life is too short. I try hard not to put people down because I think that might say more about me than them. Please take this in the spirit in which it is intended.
Good luck with your recovery. I am having the best time of my life and have no desire to give it up.
All the best
Ken
