Afternoon all,

I'm Chris and I've had enough of my problem gambling habit.
I've made excuses in the past about being able to set myself limits etc but it never works.
I still live at home with my mum and 2 sisters (I know, 31 and still living at home right). I have no debt (other than a student loan), I've never had a credit card and I've never borrowed money to gamble.
I still find myself gambling the majority, if not all of my wages. I used to tell myself that as long as I paid my bills the gambling would be ok.
The fact of the matter is, that I feel that gambling is stopping me from growing up.
Once I've gambled (and lost) I feel like s**t, and sometimes I can be nasty to the very people who are trying to help me.
Bit of a long intro, but I hope that by becoming a member of the site it can be helpful in defeating the addiction and maybe help others along the way.
Good luck with your journey everyone

Chris.

Hi, welcome aboard :-). As you already know you don't have too have debt or hit rock bottom too be a compulsive gambler with a serious addiction, but if you don't stop that's where you will end up. Compulsive gamblers have no control, it's progressive, and without realising we slip further and further into it. The fact you recognise it now is great, I bet you already have a limited social life because the lack of money you have spare, and it's not making you not grow up, it's actually destroying your chance for a happy life. Your held in a no mans land, the lack of money and time spent gambling will turn you further inside yourself, no time for anyone and no one will end up with time for you because as you say, your not very nice to those around you. Call the helpline, get some advice, maybe find a local ga meeting? And don't let the addiction fool you into thinking your not like everyone else as you have no debt, that is totally irrelevant :-). Your quality of life will improve from the moment you stop, it's a bumpy old road, but you can do it!
