Hello all....
Im no stranger to this board but its been years since Ive posted. But im back now.
Ive finally hit rock bottom with my debts and Ive just registered with my first DMP. Does anyone else have any experience of this? Im so worried that its mostly gambling debt Ive run up, like if I had gone out spending on cars, clothes partying etc that would be ok....I feel so ashamed.
I work in finance and Im not even sure I will be able to keep my job or not because they are quite strict about it. I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
I feel so alone at the moment. Im a single parent and I have confided in one or 2 close friends but my family dont know anything about this.
Ive gambled my whole months wage away this month without paying the bills so I guess I cant sink much lower than this.
🙁
Hi Prim
It sounds like uncertain outcomes has been in a similar situation as you and I would agree with their advice to talk to your employer before they find out.
In regards to your gambling you don't specifically mention if it's online gambling you tend to do, but I would advise self excluding from as many sites possible. Then it's a case of setting up blocking software (K9 is a good one) and downgrading your phone to a non internet one if possible.
It also might help you if you could hand over your finances to someone, perhaps this could be a good time to tell a family member? I remember telling my wife a little over 6 weeks ago and was worried sick about what she would say. As it turned out she was really suportive and non judgemental as well, I found her help really useful in battling this god awful addiction.
When it comes to hiding a gambling addiction from your family it tends to come out eventually anyway, at least this way you can talk to people on your own terms. With a bit of luck they will be supportive and help you through this.
Wishing you all the best
Silver
