Today I’ve decided to quit gambling, it started off as a bit of fun, as a young man I never expected my self to be in debt a few months down the line but here we are.Â
I was enticed into gambling when a popular slot payed me £ from a spin. It was the first time I ever played slots and looking back on it it’s possible they payed me this so that id get addicted to their game or perhaps im just victim blaming.
in the span of 9 months I’ve gambled possibly £15000, money i work hard for but today it ends I’ve placed a ban upon my self for 6 months and intend to start saving money again. I think I’ve made a good decision as I am currently 19 years old now understanding the dangers and mind games of gambling, I feel I’ve put a stop to something that could’ve been detrimental to my life forever.
does anyone have advice for ways to deter me from thinking about it or any advice at all or if anyone can share their stories of being gambling free and how it’s impacted their life since quitting.
thanksÂ
Get on Gamstop (it's free for UK citizens). Also install Gamban on ALL devices, including any old phones you might have lying around (I failed to do this with an old phone and ended up using it to get on offshore sites, costing me £5000). Set a gambling freeze on bank accounts. Think about putting any money you don't need for essential bills into a savings account.
Most importantly, try to get to the root of why you gamble, because in most cases it's deeper than just wanting to win money. It's usually also to do with anxiety, depression, self esteem issues, loneliness, boredom, etc. Make sure you have things to keep your mind busy in those moments you feel like gambling.
And remember, you can never win back the money you lost because even if you win it back, you will 100% guaranteed gamble it away and will have increased the size of the gambling monster. Forget about the losses, they're gone and trying to win them back will just lead to bigger losses.

Good luck!

Well done for spotting the dangers of your addiction early on in your life, with regards to stopping you need to:
Sign up to Gamban
Contact MOSES and ban yourself from every Bookies and gambling arcade, preferably within a 20 mile radius
Block gambling on your bank cards
Try and find a debit card which will only allow you to withdraw a limited amount of money each day (in case you travel further afield than your blocked bookies).
If you need further evidence of how your life may turn out if you don't stay strong, read the recovery diaries on this excellent site.
