I loved the idea of winning a easy money, but that was my downfall

I've been seriously gambling for 2 years now and have lost my saving and my monthly pay cheques go on it. I can't seem to get over the first hurdle of thinking this is bad and as other users say, as you desposit virtual money and its so easy, its only when you lose that the horror of what you've done sinks in. I despise the fact I've lost so much money and time on gambling.

I've excluded myself from most sites and think that should help my compulsion to do it. The fear of telling other family members of how much I've lost is terrifying. There is no quick rich system that works and being lucky isn't a 7 day a week job.

My life will be much better if I see money as means and not an aim.

Hoping this site will help me meet other people in similar position and they support me in my goal of not gambling my next pay cheque away. It seems silly that its an addiction coz it should be fun, a bit like being a kid at the amusement arcades.

My choice is to stop completely and take up a new less expensive hobby, maybe walking...

Hi pharoah29, welcome to recovery 🙂 & well done for realising so quickly what a damaging 'hobby' this can be! May I be the 1st of many to offer you support! Walking sounds much more rewarding, healthy body, healthy mind!

I note that you have excluded & I just wanted to make sure you know you can get blocking software. I understand K9 is free but there is a sticky post on the others & a phonecall to Gamcare may help! This will help to break your Time-Money-Location triangle as you only need to take one away to remove the ability to gamble!

You must draw a line under your losses to help you move forwards & take this journey One Day At A Time! You sound very positive so although I would advocate telling your loved ones, there are people for whom this is not possible & a fantastic network of people on here all striving for the same goal!

It may even help you to pop over onto the diary section & start your own!

You can do this - ODAAT

Great if you can draw a line now. Do it. Just imagine how much more you will lose if you don't.
