Hello

Well, I joined yesterday when I finally admitted to myself that I have a problem. My husband knows and has known for some time, but we are so close he does not want to be the one that stops me. I need to do this myself. It is hard though, for me and him. Tonight I convinced myself I could win back the money I lost at the weekend. The money that I borrowed from someone to help me pay a bill. Of course I lost. Now lost it all.

I need to do this now because I get paid my wages next week and in it will be a large back pay sum which we need to start paying bills off. If I do not face this now, I know the gambling fog will descend upon me and within an hour it will all be gone.

So I have decided to approach my husband and ask him to take over the finances. It will be hard becasue I will have to admit the pay day loan I took out over 6 months ago that I am currently paying alot of money back each month. I know he will support me, but it is just so embarrasing.

Any ideas to help me?

Hi gambling is the worst thing I have ever done I keep doing so well and start to feel positive even though I feel there is no light at the end of the tunnel at the moment by surprising the debt I am in I failed today and went on again and guess what I lost my husband as been so supportive but I still can't admit some of the debt

Welcome to recovery judelsg 🙂

Asking to hand over your finances is a great 1st step! This will break your Time-Money-Location triangle & removing just one removes the ability to gamble! You don't say how you gamble but I suspect it is online & there are blockers for this (K9 is free) but I can't vouch for any of them as I didn't do my damage this way!

Starting a diary, a phone call to Gamcare are things you can do privately. GA is another option & much more out there, again untested!

Keep busy, check out NT's thread on Tips for this if you need some guidance! Mr Brightside's exit post on the 2014 challenge is also well worth a read! & just so you know, Gamcare offer support for friends & families if you think hubby may benefit from this! He can't make you stop but hopefully he will be there with all the support he can give you, he may also need a bit of direction with this!

You need to take things One Day At A Time & you must draw a line under your losses now because if you don't, you will get in deeper & deeper trying to chase them! You would not stop @ a win! That's why we're here...We cannot win because we cannot stop!

Recovery is possible, come & enjoy it - ODAAT

Well done on handing your finances over. A lot of people won't take that step because they really want to keep their route to gambling in place. Yes it can be embarrassing to admit everything but honesty is the only way forward, it is tempting to hide things to spare ourselves but it is likely to come out in the end anyway.

Day two. All going well. It is my birthday today so I was a little tempted to 'treat' myself. Then I sat and thought about it and realised it would not be a treat, it would be a kick in the teeth. So I spent £10 on myself at the shop ! Feeling good

Well done you!

That's the kind of positive, warm fuzzy feeling spending our money is supposed to have, Not the empty gut wrench and sinking heart feeling we all know too well.

I hope you had a lovely birthday 🙂 roll on day 3!!

Day three and the buzz I am getting from not gambling is really outweighing that horrid buzz i got from gambling. I realised I thought about it less today than I did yesterday, and I am enjoying doing other things. I also starting to realise the times of the day when I do think about it and ensuring I go off and do something else at those times.

Thank you for all the support x x

Why don't you start your own diary and you can write your feelings/struggles and successes down
