Just ask yourself...is it actually fun to gamble? I know for me it isn't. I hate myself and don't enjoy it. I've been trying to chase losses in secret and look where that's got me!

I feel now I've got my problem out in the open I don't have any urge to gamble at all, maybe if you tell your dad everything it will do the same for you?

Thanks for the reply badger!

Gambling has a number of effects on me...I do remember having fun when betting low amounts when I was already in profit... but I remember that despite being well in profit I lost a 10er because a horse was P*****g a race but jockey eased the horse down in the last 100yards doing it so much that it came 2nd my a nose....As you can imagine I was furious and wanted that 10er back.... I ended up losing 3k trying to get it back that day 3 years ago. ...a I cant keep to low amounts now cos i try to get that extra strength buzz and I am never happy with the amount I might win... I want more and more!

I love watching sports and I love being right so betting is an obvious past time.... the consequences now outweigh the 30sec enjoyment that I may feel when i am right.

You may have missed a post I did, I have now told my parents... I have also told a friend too.

Hi mate, good to hear things are going okay. Saturdays are a pain aren't they, good idea to block it out with walks etc. I've decided im going to try and improve my golf (about the most time consuming sport i can find), not got the money or skill to play rounds, but just up at the range, taking some time and relaxing. I will still be watching the final today, i love football and betting won't change that, racing however I think i have a different relationship with. I thought i loved it, but without the finiancial interest I have no 'love' for a 6f race around Dundalk. Great to see you've told family and a friend. That really is key, and hopefully thats taken a weight off your shoulders, it did for me yesterday. I was thinking last night how I would replace that 'buzz', and started to ponder whether the 'buzz' now is just being 'normal'. Being able to sleep, not being scared when the bank ring, being able to be social and not spend 50% of my lying becuase of gambling. Gonna keep that thought with me today. Best of luck mate, look forward to hearing from you tomorrow, and hopefully it will be day 9!

Thanks James.

Yeah I used to enjoy playing a pitch and put course I lived near by but since moving there isnt one here... kinda wish there was as golf is probably the perfect time wasting and relaxing sport. I hope it helps anyway.

Today has easily got to be the hardest day ive had so far to stay gamble free!!

I went work for the morning, got home had shower then took dog out for 4 hours (including pub) ....got home in time to make some pasta and watch the cup final. I only took enough money for a couple of pints when I took dog out.... stayed away from watching the saturday races... didnt turn laptop on until once game had finished! Now im on here trying not to turn greyhound tv on.

All these are working to stop me from putting a bet on but, well, have you heard that the average male thinks about s*x every 6 seconds...... well I have been thinking about betting more than ive been thinking about s*x.

today I got asked 2 questions by 2 different people.

Both about betting.... one person asking for a tip for the derby and the other asking if I could put a bet on for them for the champions league final.

It has made me laugh that I didnt even know the Derby was on..... something I would 100% have a bet on.

The final I made an excuse and walked away.

I am feeling so strong right now!

I keep hearing myself saying I should have a little bet and see how it goes but thankfully I am currently alert to the dark side and have bought a wrist band to flick at myself to tell myself off lol

Thanks for that great reply joydivider!

Yes the badger is 100% correct.... I started loving having a few bets.... when I wasnt working I would bet all the time but I only ever bet pounds and normally came out evens or a quid or 2 up or down. Once I had money in the bank it was a different question... what once was fun and a bit of competition and banter with friends, became a war. I got very worked up and panicking alot from betting but when I won it was a relief... no excitement or thrill..... just body became loose and could breath better.

I am currently having a nightmare with work and very close to packing the job in but only thing stopping me is the thought of having too much time on my hands to gamble.... I am playing a hell of a lot of football manager at the moment lol
