Ok, dreading this one as I'm not exactly a poet but I'm going to try some freestylin so we will see where it goes. Apologies in advance but I guess in recovery it's good to push the uncomfortable

Hi Stuart, it's your pride

Long time no speak

I've not been around at all

All the time you've been so weak

I last blessed you

An innocent child of 12

The day you lost control

What happened to your dreams

Why throw them all away

To live a life of bets

Gambling every day

You lost hours to the bookies

In arcades and in the pub

A darkness ever growing

With every loan and sub

Did you never think to wonder

The harm you did create

And the damage to yourself

The person you berate

So I've watched you through the years

The pain was all around

Until one day you stopped

Recovery, at least, you found

I heard it was November

The 19th day you set

You put on all the blocks

And placed the last bet

This time you laid a wager

You couldn't afford to lose

The bet was on yourself

And the different way you choose

I heard you joined Gamcare

Found people, now your tribe

The chaos finally stopped

But can you find your pride

Next you took advice

Went back to join GA

33 years between meetings

Is a lifetime I would say

GA gave you hope

A program of 12 steps

A fellowship of brothers

One day, each day were reps

I've heard youve been in chatrooms

And joined many a zoom

A perfect base for recovery

You found in all these rooms

Later on in Feb

You stumbled on Evive

A family across the water

To help your life revive

I've heard you work acceptance

I've heard you try to be humble

Why did you take so long

Through a life of apple crumble

So where do you stand now

On day two, three, four

Have you found the key

To that gambling exit door

I wish you all the best

I've never gone away

When will you feel proud again

- it's in recovery every day
