Good morning,

For nearly the last 10 years i have had some involvement in gambling. From the fruit machines in bars when i was younger, to online poker i discovered at university, leading to online casinos, finding my way into bookies for fobt, real casinos and finally betting on horses. This needs to stop. I am in a good position at the moment, i do not have any significant debt and have a stable decent job.

I am tired of constantly having no money, feeling numb, feeling grumpy and worthless. It needs to stop. In 2013 i spent 6 months away for work, where i was unable to gamble, though i carried on as soon as a returned. At the start of 2014 i made a concerted effort with another trip away. By that time i had lost a lot of my savings and had to really cut down my activities for my trip to new zealand. Which would have been much better if i had kept a clear head and stayed away from gambling. When i returned i had stopped. However a few months later I relapsed and have been carrying on ever since.

I have read this site in the past to get information and read other peoples stories, the family section has some of the most moving stories and incentivised me to quit. I would hate to think i have affected those around me too much (though i know i have in one way or another).

As of today i am on the 2015 challenge, i am working one day at a time and just need to stay strong.

Thank you all for your stories and inspiration.

Hi Jameswoods99,

Good to read of your intention to quit.

It's great to know this Forum is helping you.

2015 Challenge has helped me greatly.

I'm now on Day 29 and it feels very good.

What little bit of money I have is now mine and not destined to increase bookmaker's profits.

I've got K9 on the laptop to block gambling sites. I don't know the password so I can't gamble even if I wanted to now.

Stay Strong and enjoy the gambling free days mount up.

Bye

Thanks for the advice, luckily over the years i have self excluded from nearly all of the main sites and friends. I am unfortunatly out of town for work so have not managed to self exclude from the bookies i have been to. Not tempted atm though, despite being alone on this trip. Doing fairly well and combatting urges.

I have a on to on session on thursday with a charity near home for some more help and advice.

Heres hoping payday wont be too tempting next week.

Morning all. Just thought i would pop in for an update. Over the last few months things have been hard with a cycle of smaller and smaller falls back into gambling. I had started councilling with beacon in liverpool and can not thank them enough with their patience and helping me though these tough months.

I hope to be more active here but for the first time in a long time i do not feel the same urges or have the same ability to access cash for when they do materialise.

To many good things in life coming up to ruin good times with friends and family with the old roullete wheel.

No more lies no more sneaking around. Just be able to relax and have fun with my money rather than through it down the drain.

For everyone who is trying to quit i really recommend councelling, self exclusions and restricting your money.

I ll be back for another update 🙂
