Ive been gambling for about 12 years now, basically since I was allowed to legally. In the beginning it was fun but sometimes I lost too much, at that stage it was maybe 60 in a session of fruit macchines but it was too much for a student. Nevertheless I gambled with my friends as we drank and it was reasonably good fun at the time. It was the internet that really got hold of me. Slowly I began betting more and more and to make a long story short, ive been working from payday to payday to make things work for me. Ive also gathered up a 15k loan as a result. Ive known for many years that I had to stop, and I tried but I don't think I tried hard enough.

This time im going to do everything I can. I have signed up to here for advice when needed and hope this will pull me through. I cannot go on another 10 years as before because I make good money and cannot throw it away like I have done before.

Does anyone have any advice on how to begin your first steps into the unknown as it is for me really and how to budget and stay strong when the urge is there. My problem is when im busy, I have no interest in gambling, but when I have some time to myself, I get fidgety and end up going to an online casino or betting on some random sporting event. The obvious answer is to fill my time, and that is what I intend to do- shed a few pounds in the process.

So anyone got any tips? Would be greatly appreciated

Hi been fidgety is part of withdrawal thats why you hanker a bet when so. Get started on a diary here or go to GA. I see so many people come and go on here I just want to emphasize how important stopping gambling is. This is a progressive addiction where you are now will not be where you are in 10 years time. It will be worse due to a combination of factors. So try get stopping now if you have a slip keep trying.

Hi

I'm new to the forum also and would like to help and receive help wherever I can. I think you're onto something with shedding a few pounds. I think we become addicted to the physiological endorphins that are release during a up and down session and the safest method I can think to recreate this is through exercise therefore that's something I am already implementing in my recovery. Also I am using reading as a form of brain stimulation when urges arouse.

Wish you all the best in your progression

Thanks folks. Im reading the forum first thing in the morning which is a good sign. I don't have the urge to gamble but I know it will come when there is a sporting event on or when the football starts again......or simply when I have a few hours to myself.

Yes jim really thinking about joining the local gym. Although one step at a time eh? Im going to try running for a month and then maybe join the gym with the money ive saved as if its deserved.
