Hi

Looking help on quitting gambling, I've tried doing it myself but always end up going back... I've had a gambling addiction from 18/19 years oldbut i was always able to afford it.. Started with football bets. Then gaming machines, then online

But the past year i joined the armed forces and its just blown my gambling addiction out of the water.

Every spare minute i have i find myself gambling every penny i have to the point i don't have enough for food.

For example i got paid 2 days ago and I've gambled so much that I've left myself 75 pound to live off for 26 days
And the only way i can see this getting better is by giving up gambling.. Because if i didnt gamble id be 700/800 pound better off a month

Hello B00596447,

Well done for reaching out and making a post on our forum. It sounds like you may benefit from getting some additional advice by chatting to one of our Advisors on the HelpLine. We understand that having a gambling problem can be a very hard thing to deal with, especially when you have tried quitting alone. We would like to support you with this. You can contact us on Our Freephone number on 0808 8020 133. We are open everday from 8am-12am midnight.

To self-exclude from gambling websites, you might want to think about registering online with GAMSTOP. This is a new scheme that allows you to self-exclude from multiple online sites. You can call them on 0800 138 6518 if you have any questions about the GAMSTOP Scheme. They are open 7 days a week from 8am to 12am.

You may also want to consider installing blocking software to further restrict access to gambling sites. Various blocking software’s information is listed on our website and you can have a read at the ones that might suit you.

Some of our forum users describe additional ways they limit their freedom to gamble online by arranging finances to slow down how quickly they can access money, by changing a debit card to a cash card and so on.

If you call us on 0808 8020 133, we could look to see what other support might be helpful to you, as well as share information with you about our free Counselling Services for recovery from problem gambling.

Take care,

Forum admin.
