So here I am again. I have been determined to stop gambling for so long now, and each time I have failed miserably. I’ve gone from being 5k in debt, to 28k in debt in 4 years. My most recent loss wasn’t a huge one, but the feeling this time almost broke me for good. I spent a week feeling like I want to kill myself to escape it all. That’s when I knew I couldn’t sink any lower. I am totally sick to death of having no money after working a 50 hour week and looking after my 2 children. I have now joined payplan and entered into a debt management plan. The saviour for me is Gamstop. I registered 2 days ago and it literally lists every casino I have ever played at. I feel very edgy at the moment and the urge to play is still pretty strong. I am on antidepressant and have recently gone back to my doctor for more counselling specifically for my gambling behaviour. I’m so upset that it’s going to take me 7 years to pay off my debts and I will be so short of money each month, but anything has got to be better than gambling and that total feeling of dread and despair. I really hope now I can’t physically gamble and I’m getting more help and support I can look back in 6 months and say I’m finally on the right road. I have a feeling this is going to be a rough time ahead, but I find this forum so supportive and helpful.

Hi hopeful. I think the thing that is missing from your posts is that you don't seek real life help from other compulsive gamblers. I think there are probably thousands of women in your shoes staying in gambling on phones and laptops. Have you tried to find a GA meeting? You can stop gambling but you also need to recover, feel better about yourself.

Hi hopeful,

Thank you for you comment on my forum, I’m slowing updating my forum and only starting to write now about my experiences over the past few weeks of not gambling.

I too have got all the blocks in place, have handed my finances over to my parents and I am now in a DMP plan with stepchange.

I hope you have the strength to stop gambling once and for all, as you deserve a better life than the life of gambler, like we all do on here. We’re not bad people, we’ve just made bad choices in our lives.

Now though is the time to right the wrongs and slowly rebuild our lives. It’s not going to be easy but its all about taking one day at a time.

You owe it to yourself to stop gambling, you owe yourself to have a better life and be able to enjoy your life gamble free and eventually debt free. More importantly though, you owe it to your children to be gamble free. They should inspire you to inspire yourself to make a positive change in your life. After all, who would you rather your kids know you as, their fun loving mother who turned her life around, or a gambler??

No way is this going to be easy and you may not see any light at the end of tunnel yet but keep going and take everyday as it comes. Keep walking along that path to recovery as one day you will see that light. Treat it as a one way street to recovery.

That's a lot of debt wow.
That urge when you're trying to stop is horror but if you keep yourself busy then eventually you just forget about it.. you know yourself Better than I do so you know how to keep yourself busy wether it's books, films, TV, sport, music.. just keep busy and it'll slowly get easier. If you're a believer in fate, do the lotto and maybe you'll be out of debt sooner because that's a horrible feeling too, I've been there.
